This role:

The Utilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination, and execution of maintenance activities for critical and non-critical utility systems supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. This role ensures all utility systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with regulatory requirements by providing direct supervision to maintenance technicians, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance work, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This candidate reports to the Sr. Manager, Engineering & Maintenance and is 100% onsite at the Bloomington, Indiana facility.

The responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Oversight



  • Provide daily supervision, coaching, and direction to maintenance technicians supporting utility systems (i.e., steam, compressed air, HVAC, chilled water, WFI, clean steam, vacuum, etc.)
  • Assign, prioritize, and oversee work orders, PMs, and projects to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality execution
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks, safety meetings, and job briefings to reinforce safety culture, quality, and GMP compliance
  • Partner with HR and leadership on performance evaluations, skills development, training plans, and career growth initiatives for maintenance personnel



Maintenance Planning & Execution



  • Ensure all preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities are performed per SOPs, safety procedures, and GMP standards
  • Review, plan, and schedule daily work orders in collaboration with maintenance planning, engineering, and operations teams
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for utility equipment issues, escalating complex technical problems as needed
  • Ensure accurate completion of maintenance documentation in CMMS, including work orders, equipment history, and parts usage



Compliance, Safety, and Quality



  • Champion a strong safety culture and enforce LOTO, PPE, confined space, and other regulatory safety standards
  • Ensure utility systems are maintained in a validated, compliant state in accordance with FDA, GMP, and corporate standards
  • Participate in internal and external audits, providing maintenance documentation, system knowledge, and corrective action support



Continuous Improvement & Reliability



  • Partner with engineering and teams to implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), predictive monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment uptime, maintenance efficiency, and spare parts management
  • Contribute to project planning and utility system upgrades by providing field-level input and technical expertise



Required qualifications:



  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related engineering/technical field preferred)
  • AS degree with 5+ years of hands-on/progressive experience in lieu of BS degree
  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience
  • 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated manufacturing environments
  • Strong technical knowledge of utility systems (e.g., steam, HVAC, compressed air, clean utilities, chilled water)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop a maintenance team
  • Excellent understanding of maintenance best practices, safety standards, and GMP requirements
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Proficiency with CMMS software and Microsoft Office applications
