Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $260,000/year to $275,000/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $223,942/year to $297,493/year.

Work Location: Student Health - 1708

Working Days and Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-5pm (may have some Thursday nights until 7 PM)

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Under the general direction of the Student Health Medical Director, provides direct clinical services in Primary Care Family Medicine OR Primary Care Internal Medicine Care Or other equivalent Primary Care specialty care for eligible patients at UCSB Student Health. Also provides consultation on a per case basis if needed, for members of the professional staff to assist with diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Requires California Medical License and DEA license.
  • Must be Board Certified, current to be verified by American Board of Medical Specialties.
  • Requires knowledge of electronic / medical records systems.
  • Requires knowledge essential to managing a health care unit and associated medical and clinical staff members.
  • Requires highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Ability to be comfortable with providing mental or behavioral health care, preventative care, and diverse primary care needs.
  • Has skills needed to provide quality health service programs to faculty, students and staff members.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative manner, and lead and influence others on matters of significance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years Relevant post-graduate experience.
  • Training or work experience in sexual and reproductive health.
  • Experience with minor outpatient procedures, such as suturing and I&D.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Student Health requires all clinical staff must successfully complete and pass the background check and credentialing process before employment and date of hire.
  • To comply with Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Health Officer Order, this position must provide evidence of annual influenza vaccination, or wear a surgical mask while working in patient care areas during the influenza season.
  • Per California Code of Regulations Title 8, Section 5199 Aerosol Transmissible Disease Standard requires; upon hire and annually thereafter Tuberculosis (TB) screening for all employees. The method of testing is determined by past medical history and any current symptoms.
  • Per Cal/OSHA regulations and UCSB Campus Policy, all UCSB personnel who use respiratory protection equipment shall be included in the UCSB Respiratory Protection Program and required to complete respirator fit testing upon hire and annually thereafter, completed by UCSB Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Must have a current CA medical and DEA license at all times during employment. Must be Board Certified by American Board of Medical Specialties.
  • Hours: M-F 8am-5pm. Schedule may include Thursday evenings. May be required to answer phone calls and respond to campus emergencies outside of regular operating hours. This is a 12 month per year, 100% time position. Student Health is closed between the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays. Any HIPAA or FERPA violation is subject to disciplinary action.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

95% Clinical:

Provides and manages Primary Care Internal Medicine or Family Medicine professional medical care for outpatients at Student Health including diagnosis, treatment, and consultations.

Demonstrates the necessary skill sets to work in primary care and provides exceptional care of students with complex medical problems.

Provides professional medical care for outpatients requiring mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, eating disorders with Psychiatry backup.

Manages a broad range of primary care clinical conditions in ambulatory medicine including infectious disease, minor trauma, dermatology, sports medicine, sexual health, gender affirming care, gynecology, and travel medicine.

Provides direct patient care in a continuity-based primary care model with focus on collaboration, chronic disease management, and prevention in a traditional college health practice.

Maintains medical records in compliance with medical staff rules and regulations and Student Health policies and procedures manual.

Provides consultation, and acts as clinical supervisor for nurses and nurse practitioners practicing under the Standardized Procedures and Protocols and Medication Furnishing Protocols (including Schedule II-V controlled substances according to their individual authorizations) of UCSB Student Health. When the Primary Supervising Physician is unavailable, acts as the clinical supervisor for Physician Assistants practicing under a Practice Agreement.

Works in collaboration with nurses and other clinical staff.

Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, with knowledge and sensitivity appropriate to working with highly diverse, late adolescent and young adult populations.

Demonstrates excellent computer skills and the ability to use computerized medical information systems proficiently.

Shows commitment to the UCSB SHS team and treats students, colleagues, campus and community in a respectful and supportive manner. Exhibits a calm demeanor when working under pressure.

Demonstrates excellent communication and listening skills, a strong work ethic, reliability and flexibility.

5% Non-Clinical:

Conducts training sessions in continuing education sessions as needed for Physicians, Physician Assistants and Nurses assigned to the professional staff, keeping them abreast of new treatments and developments within their field.

Participates in continuing education as it relates to profession and the needs of Primary Care needs of clinic.

Performs specialized duties for the Executive Director and/or Medical Director of Student Health in reviewing cases and making recommendations involving the referral of patients to off campus consultants.

Member of clinic wide committees when needed and as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.
