The Library and Information Science ( LIS) Department in the School of Communication and Information (SC&I) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, invites applications for an open rank (non-tenure track at assistant, associate, or full professor levels) faculty position in the area of:

Our Master of Information program is an American Library Association-accredited degree with national rankings. The program is offered on campus and online. We seek an applicant with a focus in school librarianship to teach and contribute to the growth, visibility, and prominence of the program.
The LIS department is a charter member of the iSchools organization, has a dynamic research and learning culture, is international in scope and local in impact, and is in an exciting period of growth. We seek candidates whose work complements our faculty's strengths, and who can deliver excellent instruction for students.

Responsibilities of tenure-track faculty members include undergraduate and graduate teaching assignments, an active program of research in the candidate's area of scholarly expertise, and service contributions in accordance with the university policy for tenure-track and tenured appointments.
Responsibilities will include teaching graduate courses in school librarianship and library science; supervising Schoen Fellowship Students in their funded, independent research projects and maintain the Schoen Fellowship website; collaborating with other faculty to advance the research and teaching related to school libraries and youth literacy; assisting with recruitment, program growth, and placements by developing and maintaining relationships within the library community and K-12 educational institutions, school library and media centers; assisting with program planning, innovative curriculum development, and assessment; advising students participating in school librarianship coursework, including on state licensure requirements; managing the relationship with the NJ State Department of Education to maintain state licensure compliance for our program and curriculum; engaging in service to the department, university, and profession commensurate with a faculty position at Rutgers University.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
An ALA-, NCATE-, or TEAC-accredited masters degree and a doctorate in library or information science or a related educational field are required. Should have a record of teaching in higher education; 10+ years in K-12 school library teaching experience or equivalent; knowledge of methods and strategies of instruction in school libraries; knowledge of the scope of current research in the fields of school librarianship and information literacy; knowledge of National School Library Standards and their use in K-12 settings; knowledge of instructional design theory, applications, and practices in K-12 settings; experience with the design of effective online instruction and web design platforms; ability to teach, apply, and assess best practice in school library settings; a record of service, publications, and leadership relating to the library profession.
