In the role of a Radiation Safety Technologist II you will be working in our Research Office.
The Office of Research helps to facilitate life-saving biomedical research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Nine distinct units provide specialized support to meet the needs of our research investigators and staff, and together we coordinate, regulate, and monitor research studies. Our Office of Radiation Safety oversees the safe and compliant use of radioactive materials for research, education, and patient care applications. The Radiation Safety Technologist II supports the daily operations of the Office of Radiation Safety (ORS) by working with fellow Radiation Safety staff to maintain compliance with the MCW broadscope radioactive materials license and Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) regulations for use of Radioactive Materials and other sources of ionizing radiation. The Technologist works closely with the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer to assist with the physical transportation and tracking of radioactive materials and monitoring radiation sources. The Technologist supports the oversight of authorized use, training, and handling of specific materials, as well as supporting ORS office functions and small projects as directed by the Radiation Safety Officer. Primary Functions
Must have very strong customer service skills that includes courteous and helpful behavior; accomplishing tasks through teamwork and initiative; and anticipating the needs of all those with whom you work. Must be able to learn and understand fundamental concepts related to working with radioactive materials and radiation sources and practically apply a working knowledge to day-to-day tasks. Must be able to work independently with direction and to foster collaborative working relationships and participate as a member of a dynamic team. Organization, time management, interpersonal, and problem solving skills required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Must be comfortable with technology and be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Within 6 months, must be able to be approved for unescorted access to areas of increased control in accordance with 10 CFR 37.
