Compensation:

* Base Pay Range: $19.15 - $30.23/hour, based on experience

ABOUT THE JOB

MU Health Care is looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Reimbursement Assistant to join our Utilization Management team. In this dynamic role, you'll be the critical link between departments and insurance providers, ensuring timely and accurate submission of notice of admission forms and coordinating billing and reimbursement processes. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong communication skills, and has a keen eye for interpreting medical documentation and identifying potential claim issues. You'll work closely with internal teams and external agencies to resolve audit discrepancies and support accurate coding for diagnoses and procedures. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Submit notice of admission forms to appropriate insurance companies via portal, fax, and phone communication.

Review and assign incoming faxes on approvals and denials to the appropriate place.

Coordinate all notice of admissions with appropriate departments within the university system and outside agencies; i.e., Medical Records, Hospital Admissions, insurance companies.

Coordinate all aspects of professional and technical billings/collections with appropriate departments within the university system and outside agencies; i.e., Medical Records, Practice Plan, Hospital Admissions, outside hospitals, insurance companies, and state and federal agencies.

Screen medical record for possible claims related liability issues;assist in the audit of medical records in order to document and identify potential problems with the billing and reimbursement process.

Act as liaison between third party payers and assigned departments in order to resolve audit discrepancies.

Screen medical records for all diagnoses and procedures; assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to the appropriate classification system for inpatient, outpatient and professional encounters to assure appropriate reimbursement is billed.

Interpret healthcare documentation in order to determine principal diagnosis and procedure.

May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of medical terminology.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate's degree (or equivalent credit hours) in medical coding, medical office technology, or other medical related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two (2) years of medical related experience including one (1) year of medical coding experience.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
