Job Summary:
This position under the direction of the Director of Radiation Oncology will assume leadership, direction, accountability and responsibility of patient care and support both Mary Washington Hospital Radiation Oncology (MWHRO) and Stafford Hospital Radiation Oncology (SHRO) clinical operations. This position will ensure clinical flow that upholds Mary Washington Healthcare's (MWHC) high quality, safety and service excellence standards. This position will be responsible for all scheduled machine maintenance, and communication of global clinical issues to the Medical Physicist, Medical Director, and Director of Radiation Oncology. This position provides supervision, leadership and collaboration with lead therapists at SHRO & RCCM to ensure that all clinical policies and procedures and MWHC policy/procedures/standards are adhered to by the radiation therapists. This position is also accountable for clinical duties that include radiation therapy delivery, brachytherapy, and simulation in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription and instructions.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Oversees operations and supervises resources to ensure efficient and effective performance of services. Assists management in developing, administering, and monitoring the departmental budget to ensure cost-effective operations within authorized budget allocations.
- Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and understanding of the areas being supervised. Oversees patient scheduling, CT Simulations, Mould Room, Brachytherapy, and External Beam procedures to ensure smooth daily operations and quality services.
- Assists with the development, revision, and enforcement of departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and standards to ensure quality care, efficiency, and procedural compliance.
- Orients, supervises, and evaluates the performance of the Radiation Therapists to ensure safe and effective operations. Conducts staff meeting to communicate information, discuss safety/quality issues, and monitor continued understanding and compliance with MWHC and departmental policies.
- Maintains clinical Radiation Therapy competencies and can provide direct patient care in all aspects of Radiation Treatment delivery.
- Initiates performance improvement activities for the section utilizing a LEAN/PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) approach to improvement.
- Establishes and maintains professional rapport with Associates and Medical Staff. Communicates clearly, and effectively with all customers. Evaluates and resolves customer satisfaction and quality/performance issues in a timely manner. Creates an environment that promotes customer service excellence.
- Attends meetings and committees as necessary.
- Provide treatment/CT coverage as needed at any of the three radiation oncology departments.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies when disposing of infectious or hazardous materials. Adheres to radiation safety practices for patients, personnel, and self.
- Responsible for clinical instruction of Radiology Students from MWH School of Radiologic Technology Program and VCU Radiation Therapy students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program, required.
- Registered with the ARRT required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant radiation experience required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Management or Radiation Therapy Sciences, preferred.
