Position Overview

CBIZ is seeking an enterprise-minded, visionary Director to build, lead, and scale the Data Service Center-a dynamic Center of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to transformative data analytics, extraction, automation, and business intelligence, serving all internal CBIZ practice groups. This leader will drive adoption and enhancement of the CoE solutions portfolio, expanding beyond our strong audit foundation to enable highest-value data and analytics capability for Tax, Advisory, Technology, Benefits & Insurance, and M&A teams.

You will own solution management, delivery, operations, and strategic innovation of the Data CoE portfolio-establishing best-in-class analytics solutions that streamline internal workflows, drive efficiency, unlock new business use cases, and demonstrate measurable ROI and margin uplift across our organization. As a champion for digital transformation and data-driven decision-making, you will transform our internal analytics landscape, establish robust metrics for value creation, and scale adoption rapidly firmwide.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Own the Data CoE capability for the enterprise for all CBIZ practice groups.

  • Define and execute a vision for state-of-the-art internal data processing, manipulation, and ETL-including leadership in Alteryx, IDEA, Teammate, RPA, AI-powered analytics, and related scalable platforms.

  • Partner with CBIZ business unit leaders to proactively identify, prioritize, and roll out expanded analytics use cases addressing their most critical challenges and opportunities.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with practice leaders to market service and to proactively identify needs and opportunities for the Data CoE support.

Portfolio Expansion & Service Adoption

  • Drive rapid adoption of the current Data CoE portfolio (PDF/Excel conversion, GL testing, JE analytics, statistical sampling, workflow automation, etc.) across Audit and all internal business units as applicable (Tax, Advisory, Technology, Benefits & Insurance, M&A, etc.).

  • Systematically assess business needs, design new use cases, and launch tailored analytics solutions aligned to evolving practice requirements.

  • Establish Data CoE as a shared operational backbone for client related data analytics across the entire firm, promoting cross-functional learning, process standardization, and technology-enabled efficiency.

Value & Metrics-Efficiency, Pricing, Margin, and ROI

  • Develop transparent pricing, baseline efficiency standards, and detailed ROI tracking for all Data CoE offerings-demonstrating clear value creation and margin improvement for every business unit.

  • Benchmark legacy processes (cost, effort, turnaround) so business units see real savings/impact captured by Data CoE created solutions.

  • Produce, monitor, and present actionable metrics: adoption rates, cycle time reduction, cost savings, productivity gains, user satisfaction, and margin enhancement.

Center of Excellence Operations & Team Leadership

  • Oversee the design and execution of standard and customized analytics offerings, including but not limited to:

  • PDF-to-Excel data conversions and formatting

  • General ledger formatting, testing, and completeness analytics

  • Journal entry testing and custom transaction scoring

  • AR/AP aging analysis, inventory analytics, sampling, and complex data extractions

  • Build and lead a CoE team of analytics professionals-cultivating deep expertise in Alteryx, RPA, data, and business intelligence tools.

  • Foster a collaborative, innovative culture focused on knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and delivery of client-centric internal solutions.

  • Ensure operational excellence: robust data governance, security, compliance, documentation, and support across all workflows.

  • Consolidate Analytical tools to CoE team reducing the overall spend for tools within CBIZ as a contributor to ROI.

  • Ensure efficient onboarding and support for new analytics tools and workflows, minimizing learning curve for CBIZ practitioners.

Internal Branding & Change Management

  • Develop and execute a marketing/evangelization strategy: promote Data CoE capabilities and successes across CBIZ, build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, and drive demand.

  • Act as a visible champion-engage at all organizational levels to inspire adoption, surface new opportunities, and support onboarding/training for new users and groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. (Master's preferred)

  • 10+ years progressive experience in data-driven professional services (audit/tax/advisory/insurance), with a deep understanding of audit, tax and advisory workflow and processes

  • Leadership of digital transformation programs.

  • Demonstrated success scaling firmwide analytics solutions, driving pricing and ROI visibility, and leading multidisciplinary technical teams.

  • Advanced proficiency with data analytics and ETL platforms-Alteryx, TeamMate, CaseWare IDEA, RPA, AI-powered workflow automation, and related tools.

  • Strategic thinker with strong business analysis and operational design skills; able to translate stakeholder needs into actionable analytics solutions.

  • Exceptional communicator and influencer able to build partnerships, drive cultural adoption, and present value/metrics to executive stakeholders.

Success Metrics

  • Rapid increase in Data CoE adoption rate across all CBIZ practice groups.

  • Demonstrable reduction in manual data processing, cost, and cycle times firmwide.

  • Documented margin and ROI uplift for every business unit, delivered with transparent pricing and efficiency baselines.

  • Expansion from audit-centric delivery to broad-based analytics capability supporting Tax, Advisory, Technology, Benefits & Insurance, and M&A teams.

  • Creation of a recognized Center of Excellence and internal brand known for best-in-class analytics innovation, value, and trusted partnership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • College Degree or equivalent required
  • 8 years related experience
  • Strong technical knowledge
  • Proficient project management skills
  • Knowledge of industry regulations
  • Ability to lead and coordinate the team activities of others
  • Ability to formulate, document and recommend new policies and procedures
  • Able to manage a team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of an organization, both internally and externally
  • Ability to travel as required by business and on-call availability
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
