Community Solutions is seeking a full-time Controller for our non-profit dedicated to helping individuals at risk of becoming involved in or have been involved in the child welfare and/or criminal justice system. This individual will be based in our corporate office in Windsor, CT. This individual will be responsible for the direction of the financial affairs and financial analysis of the organization. In conjunction with the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for the company's financial plans, policies and accounting practices

What You'll Do:

Fiscal:



  • Responsible for maintaining the books and records of the agency in a manner consistent with generally accepted accounting principles, (GAAP,) other legal and regulatory frameworks as necessary for the Agency.
  • Develop and implement best-practice internal financial controls in compliance with grant and audit requirements.
  • Develop, analyze, and interpret accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of performance against budget and operating effectiveness.
  • Direct fiscal staff, including those that do not report to this role, to ensure that GAAP and all applicable and regulatory requirements (federal, state, and local), government accounting principles, practices and procedures are followed.
  • Prepare reports outlining company's financial position (balances, income, expenses, and earnings) based on past, present, and projected future operations.
  • Assist with the annual Agency budget in conjunction with the Director of Contracts and monitor monthly financial reporting to ensure the agency is hitting its objectives.
  • Coordinate the annual independent audit with the organization's CPA firm including preparing any and all documents associated with the annual audit and single audits.
  • Work closely with CFO in the area of cash management to ensure that cash flow is consistent with the operational needs of the Agency. Perform short and long-term cash flow projections and closely monitor payables and receivables.
  • Responsible for oversight of the purchasing process including how all program expenditures are approved, processed, and recorded to ensure compliance with all grants, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for implementation and quality control of financial management systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining a fixed asset listing for the Agency and ensuring the completion of an annual inventory to properly reconcile all property and equipment purchased by the Agency.
  • Responsible for training and assisting all managers and supervisors in the development and monitoring of annual operating budgets and monthly financial statements.


Administrative:



  • Develops, assists in negotiating, and oversees implementation of all Agency contracts and service agreements relating to both service and physical plant operation.
  • Handles insurance policies, including D&O, general liability, worker's compensation, unemployment, cyber, disability, and umbrella.
  • Performs periodic quality assurance monitoring of Agency operations for compliance with Agency policies, contractual requirements, licensing and standards.
  • Participates in and conducts relevant, training, education and professional associations for the purpose of positive Agency public relations, pro-actively marketing Agency activities, keeping abreast of current developments in other agencies in order to promote staff and Agency growth.
  • Represents the Agency at business related meetings with state, federal, private, and prospective new funding sources. Conducts annual audits and inspections of Agency in areas of financial, personnel, and physical plant.
  • Responsible for ensuring the timely review and appropriate revision of Agency financial policies on an annual basis.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and abide by Agency programs, policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications

What We're Looking For:



  • Master's Degree and five years of financial administration experience of which three years must have been in a progressively responsible supervisory capacity.
  • Bachelor's Degree and eight years of financial administration experience of which five years must include be supervisory in nature.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and with all applicable and regulatory requirements (federal, state, and local), government accounting principles, practices and procedures, audit and management practices.
  • Able to communicate effectively (both written and oral) with program staff and outside agencies in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner with the ability to communicate complex financial issues in simple, understandable terms.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of Blackbaud FE NXT and/or Ramp Spend Management system preferred.
