Job Description

Under administrative direction of designated supervisor, the Associate Investigator plans, conducts, and reports on internal investigations, such as compliance, financial mismanagement, federal and state regulations, and research issues, across all University functions. The Associate Investigator also interfaces with department managers and staff to complete investigations and report findings to decision-makers to take actions. This position contributes to supporting and maintaining our primary commitment to conducting University business with integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, plan, and conduct internal investigations throughout the UM system.
  • Conduct evaluation and appraisal of business operations to identify areas with risk of fraud or misconduct.
  • Participates in department special projects and initiatives.
  • Pursues professional training opportunities to improve on existing job knowledge.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Formulate plan, timetables, and conduct an accurate, complete, and thorough investigation within OGC/ECAS procedures.
  • Prepare for and conduct interviews of necessary individuals.
  • Gather, document, and preserve information and evidence related to investigations to support the outcome of the investigation.
  • Write narrative reports to effectively communicate the results of investigations to appropriate parties.
  • Provide testimony at administrative hearings to support the outcome of the investigation.
  • Must be able to travel to four campuses as needed.

A successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Knowledge of basic investigation techniques and best practices, with the ability and desire to gain in-depth knowledge of advanced techniques.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, with diverse populations ranging from base-line operating staff to senior management.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to conduct investigations under Attorney-Client Privilege, when necessary.
Shift

Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than two years of internal investigative experience.
  • Experience working in higher education and/or healthcare organizations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of interview techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations under Attorney-Client Privilege.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $60,000.00 -$70,000.00 per year

Grade: GGS-010
