Job Summary:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related business field. They will be a mature self-starter, eager to learn and with basic understanding of financial statement analysis, collateral instruments, and financial exposure measurement and management. Reporting duties require basic Excel skills though expertise is desired. The successful candidate will join a team of credit professionals responsible for a portfolio of retail energy customers across North America and be a key contributor to the ongoing development of best-in-class risk management tools for NRG's retail credit team.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform credit reviews of current and prospective retail energy customers using financial analysis, third-party rating agency intelligence, data services, and proprietary models.
  • Qualify prospective transactions including purpose, exposure, risks, and potential mitigants.
  • Actively monitor and manage a designated retail customer portfolio by maintaining credit limits, ratings, and other prerequisite database fields for accurate reporting and monitoring.
  • Apply good judgment in recommending transactions and applying appropriate credit limits to customers based on the credit analysis conducted.
  • Participate in calls with customers and brokers to obtain information needed for credit review.
  • Participate and negotiate retail master agreements.
  • Perform weekly reporting of top customer exposures, expected losses, and over-limit issues.
  • Support the development and enhancement of credit risk metrics, processes, and development of solutions to credit issues while remaining compliant with policy.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the sales team by addressing credit-related inquiries with a fast turnaround and clear response.

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment a minimum of 3 days/week.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment 1-2 days/week.

Minimum Requirements:

  • University undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
  • General understanding of financial statements and credit risk metrics.
  • General knowledge of the energy industry.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively with other team members and departments.
  • Basic skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with third-party credit agencies including Dun & Bradstreet, Credit Risk Monitor, S&P Capital IQ, Moody's KMV, or others.
  • Highly skilled with MS Excel; proficient with other MS Office products.
  • Functional knowledge of reporting software such as Tableau or PowerBI.
