Job Summary

Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is seeking a full-time dedicated and service-oriented Maintenance Operations Technician who performs maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to enable proper operation of buildings, utilities, equipment, and facilities. This is a customer-service oriented position and requires timely and courteous service.

The Maintenance Operations Technician completes work orders and requests: painting, drywall repair, masonry, plumbing including carpentry and equipment and furniture repairs. The Maintenance Ops Technician is also responsible for event support, including the setup and breakdown of equipment and furniture for meetings and campus activities.

Essential Functions

35% Monitors, maintains and performs minor repairs for mechanical, ca rpentry, locks, plumbing, electrical, life safety and energy management system issues. Performs preventative maintenance on cooling, water, heat, air, drainage and other infrastructure systems; performs minor repairs and remodeling.

30% Receives daily work orders through the department's electronic work order system and makes appropriate entries, changing work order statuses as projects progress. Maintains and tracks materials to successfully perform assigned tasks. Responds to work order requests and/or emergency calls; adheres to applicable policies and procedures; keeps assigned tools and/or equipment in clean and safe working conditions.

25% Event Setup and breakdown at the direction of the event coordinator. Sets up equipment, furniture layouts, banners, tents, and event materials. Events sometimes occur outside of normal business hours and on weekends. Requires use of ladders and aerial lifts (on the job training provided.)

10% Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, and one (1) year of building maintenance experience or directly related experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

Desired Qualifications

1. One (1) years experience in the facilities, maintenance, repair or related field

2. One (1) year experience in facilities working in a commercial setting or educational setting

3. Experience with event set up, facilitation and breakdown

4. Experience in troubleshooting plumbing and leaks

5. Experience assisting in renovation of facility spaces

6. Experience in carpentry work

7. Experience in drywall repair, texturing and painting

Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
  • May require work off site or in a remote status. Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations.
  • Schedules may consist of shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, or otherwise non-standard work schedules and may involve "on-call" status and/or called in to work with short notice.
  • Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with frequent exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for short or long durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures and extreme desert heat.
  • Work may include moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, fumes, fuels, odors, poor ventilation, gasses, blood or other body fluids).
  • Some indoor work environments may not be air conditioned.
  • Work may involve frequent exposure to loud noise associated with tools or mechanical work and require the use of hand and power tools.
  • Some work may be performed in an office/computer workstation and require the use of a computer and keyboard for training, to check emails, and/or communicate with coworkers and supervision. This classification may require that an incumbent be on their feet, standing or walking while performing duties, for the majority, if not all, of a work shift.
  • Within the first six months of employment must obtain job related OSHA training
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
