This position is based out of our corporate office in downtown Indianapolis but with travel required to Indiana and Illinois sites as needed. The general salary range is $58-$70K and includes full benefits (below):

The Safety Manager is responsible for multiple sites and is involved in all elements of safety, including all other standards set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The position has a direct key role and manages the safety training, emergency response, safety auditing/inspections, and provides data analysis of trends and findings.

Example Duties and Activities

  • Follows all safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.

  • Prepares studies and evaluates workplace accident causes and health hazards, for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

  • Evaluates claims and works with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate future risk.

  • Prepares studies and analysis of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

  • Works with leadership to develop and sustain effective safety committees that demonstrate management commitment and employee involvement.

  • Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance company investigations and inquiries.

  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

  • Ascertains the financial impact of risk on the company by evaluating and classifying risks as to frequency and potential severity.

  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

  • Minimizes losses by reducing the chance of loss; reducing frequency and severity of loss; utilizing self-insurance and planned non-insurance; increasing predictability of loss; and placing property, activity, or risk with other establishments or insurers.

  • Identifies training and development needs by evaluating organization results, job requirements, operational problems, plans and forecasts, and current training programs. Assists leaders in developing comprehensive emergency response protocols and drills.

  • Performs internal safety audits and inspections. Inspects the organization's facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

  • Conducts annual risk assessments.

  • Participates in pre-contract assessments, as requested.

  • Maintains knowledge base and a thorough understanding of all standards OSHA sets by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications.

  • Industry Expertise - Has worked as a proactive advisor between a business, insurer, third-party claims administrator, and other stakeholders, overseeing the preparation, presentation, and negotiation of claims through conclusion. Adept at ergonomic and worksite evaluations and risk assessments. Possesses solid working knowledge of OSHA regulations and how they are applied to complex situations. Has an industry-recognized safety certification or is willing to obtain one.

  • Customer Focus - Has the ability to see, comprehend, and relate with customers in an impartial, unbiased yet effective and balanced manner; builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the organization; provides excellent responsive service to internal and external customers. Maintains a professional and positive attitude.

  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

  • Data Analysis - Collects data and statistics to test and evaluate in order to generate assertions and pattern predictions without bias, with the aim of discovering useful information in a decision-making process.

  • Complex Problem Solving - Identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Technical Knowledge - Mastery of advanced features of G Suite and MS Office (image and table formatting, document change tracking, headers/footers/table of contents, lookup/pivot tables, formulas, etc.).

  • Autonomy - Takes initiative without waiting to be directed, does what is asked, and works until the job is completed. Takes ownership of mistakes and learns from them rather than makes excuses.

  • Conflict Resolution - Anticipates, diffuses, and resolves disagreements, confrontations, tensions, and complaints in a practical and constructive manner in order to achieve results. Models concepts of motivational interviewing, coaching, and reflective practice.

  • Teamwork - Works well with others and makes valued contributions in a team setting in order to achieve the required goals and outcomes. Contributes to creating a positive work environment that promotes productivity, mentoring, teamwork, and partnership.

  • Ethical - Adheres to procedures and protocol, including maintaining confidentiality in passwords, logging on and off procedures, and adherence to Goodwill's values. Uses discretion when sharing and protects private information.

Other Requirements

  • Light to Moderate Physical Work - Is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and stand for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check. Must have a valid driver's license, up-to-date auto insurance, and a good driving record.

  • Is willing to travel to any of the locations within the GCSI territory.
