Porter Corp is looking for an energetic and passionate person who has five years' experience with building design and construction. This candidate shall have an architectural degree or a degree in a similar field. Of those five years of experience, a minimum of three years of 3D modeling is required as a strong basis to learn our Dietrich CAD software.

Porter SIPs panels are the key to energy efficient building. They are stronger, use approximately half the energy and can be erected in less time than conventional buildings. Designing with structural insulated panels (SIP) is a great way to build upon your construction knowledge base and to celebrate both personal and company success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  1. Reading and interpreting building plans
  2. Input of SIP panels for design layouts conforming to current Porter SIPs design practices and standards
  3. Design wall, roof and floors ensuring both structural and non-structural elements are accurate, optimized and conforms to standards
  4. Prepare preliminary engineering drawings, submittal drawings and/or repair details
  5. Work with engineers on structural designs and layouts
  6. Prepare production drawings in CAD to support and aid manufacturing.
  7. Create Bills of Materials (BOM) for the products specified and entering data into a manufacturing database.
  8. Generate and provide accurate pricing for estimating purposes using PDF quoting tools
  9. Aid in training of new employees when required
  10. Aid in individual skills development and team development when required
  11. Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience



  1. General knowledge of construction industry and construction site management
  2. Knowledge of structural insulated panels is a plus
  3. Knowledge of structural loading and load tables
  4. Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans
  5. Ability to calculate tributary loads and load transfer though a building
  6. Ability to operate a computer and Dietrich design software (Training is provided)
  7. Previous experience with a modeling software such as Google Sketchup
  8. Ability to operate Microsoft Excel, Word and other MS applications skillfully
  9. Knowledge of 3D CAD and drawing standards
  10. Good written and oral communication skills are required
  11. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
  12. Attention to details and memory of these details
  13. Ability to be effectively communicate with customers, co-workers and construction personnel
  14. Good math skills including, but not limited to, architectural units, fractions, geometry and basic trigonometry
  15. Organized and able to balance workload as needed
  16. Four years or more of prior work experience is a plus


Travel

This position requires minimal to no travel

Computer Skills



  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
  • Demonstrated proficiency using EPICOR ERP or similar systems
