Job Description
General Purpose of Job: The Peer Review Coordinator (RN) will manage the peer review process from acceptance of cases for peer review, facilitating first level screening if applicable, preparation of case review documents, documentation of peer review results, production of reports, and maintenance of the peer review data base. Prepare, log, and coordinate comprehensive medical record reviews in accordance with Medical Staff policies. Facilitate timely review, case action(s) and completion of reviews in collaboration with Medical Staff Department Chairs and/or their designees, Committees, and Administration. The Peer Review Coordinator will work closely with Medical and Clinical Staff leadership on providing accurate clinical summaries, data trending, reports, analysis and uses the outcomes of the assessments to improve patient care. Essential Duties
- Provide administrative support for Medical Staff meetings, including but not limited to the Centralized Peer Review and Quality Committee (CPRQC), and the associated workgroup, Leadership Council, including preparation and dissemination of meeting agendas, supporting materials and facilitation of associated follow-up
- Perform accurate and timely data entry, management and follow up of Medical Staff peer review cases, within established protocol, into the peer review database/software and with associated physicians/team members
- Produce periodic peer review trending reports and other periodic peer review reports for CPRQC and MSEC
- Function as a liaison with the Medical Staff, physician leaders, and various internal team members to communicate medical staff matters confidentially and facilitate resolution to identified concerns with the applicable parties
- Assist in coordination, facilitation and administrative support of the professional development plans for Medical Staff members.
- Obtain and continuously apply working knowledge of Medical Staff peer review functions and legal protections, as well as accreditation standards and associated regulatory requirements to support peer review functions.
- Successfully manage multiple time sensitive tasks with varying time lines and deadlines to achieve exceptional administrative results
Job Requirements
Work Experience |
* Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an acute care hospital setting required, with 4+ years preferred. * Experience in the use of electronic health record systems required. |
Education |
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, MSN preferred. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Requires that the individual have considerable organizational skills and nursing clinical knowledge. * Ability to function with minimal supervision, to anticipate tasks and prioritize assignments. * Ability to manage multiple projects, analyze complex problems, and operate a laptop computer (fluently), word, windows, access, excel. * Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with hospital, medical staff, and regulatory agencies. * Ability to organize and assist in survey activities for regulatory or accreditation bodies. |
