The Division of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Georgia advances the goals, objectives, and priorities of the university by generating private financial support, building, and maintaining relationships with alumni and donors, and assisting students with career development opportunities.
Career Center
The University of Georgia Career Center is the provider of centralized career services to undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni at The University of Georgia. Career Center staff work collaboratively with faculty and staff of all departments to enhance the career success of University of Georgia students/alumni. Several of the "nuts & bolts" services the UGA Career Center provides to its students include career counseling, job search training, and opportunities to connect with employers.
The Career Center also serves as a corporate gateway to the University by helping employers meet key faculty/staff, understand culture and curriculum, and successfully recruit UGA students and alumni. A broad group of corporate, government, and nonprofit employers recruit at The University of Georgia, and the Career Center facilitates this process through career fairs, on-campus interviews, and a variety of recruiting and educational programs and events.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, business, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of career coaching strategies across career stages, with the ability to support alumni pursuing job transitions, graduate education, or re-careering.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, implementing, and assessing scalable career programs and resources that align with alumni needs and institutional priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; skilled at building relationships with alumni, employers, faculty, and staff across departments and organizations.
  • Experience supervising staff and/or student employees, providing clear expectations, mentorship, and regular performance feedback.
  • Proficiency with career services platforms (e.g., Handshake, LinkedIn), virtual tools, and data systems to inform strategy, improve services, and track engagement outcomes.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Career Center's Director of Career Education, this position coordinates and provides coaching, programming, and resources related to career exploration, job-related skill development, experiential learning, graduate school, re-careering, and employment for University of Georgia alumni. The position also manages alumni enrollment into Handshake, marketing efforts including newsletters and social media graphics, and facilitates alumni access to recruiting events that connect employers to UGA talent. This position supervises a team of Career Consultants and graduate assistants.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Professional experience in career services, alumni relations, human resources, or a related area, preferably with experience serving adult learners or mid-career professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and assess career-related programming and resources at scale.
  • Supervisory experience, with the ability to support, develop, and evaluate professional and student staff.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including experience presenting to groups and communicating with a range of stakeholders (e.g., alumni, employers, faculty, administrators).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and work independently while fostering collaboration across units.
  • Experience using career management platforms (e.g., Handshake), learning management systems, and/or other web-based technologies to support engagement and service delivery.
  • Knowledge of career trends and employment issues relevant to alumni and experienced job seekers.

Alumni Career Services and Resource Management

  • Initiate, coordinate, and implement all Alumni Career Services in coordination with Career Center Staff.
  • Provide comprehensive career coaching related to career exploration, career changes, job-related skill development, graduate school applications, and employment needs for all UGA alumni.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for alumni inquiry and appointments.
  • Coordinate the alumni career newsletter and marketing campaign, highlighting upcoming programs and employer recruitment opportunities.
  • Maintain Alumni Career Services webpage, keeping resources relevant and comprehensive.
  • Develop and maintain self-pace/asynchronous resources, including Job Search and Graduate School bootcamps, resume resources, etc.

Supervision and Performance Management

  • Supervise 3-4 Career Consultants and/or 1 Graduate Assistant serving several schools and colleges.
  • Provide guidance and support through individual and group meetings, semester reports, strategic planning meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • In coordination with Director of Career Exploration, develop KPIs and expectations for employees reporting to this position. Mentor and evaluate his/her performance annually.

Alumni Talent Engagement and Employer Partnership

  • Act as the liaison between employers and UGA Alumni to promote appropriate job postings through email and provide employers with insights about alumni engagement.
  • Collaborate with Employer Relations to provide strategy to employers seeking alumni talent.
  • Proactively engage with Schools and Colleges to ensure students still seeking employment or admission into graduate/professional school are aware of resources and support provided by Alumni Career Services.

Stakeholder Engagement and Institutional Collaboration

  • Meet and communicate regularly with key UGA contacts, e.g., UGA Faculty, Administrators, Undergraduate and Graduate coordinators, Alumni Relations, Development, etc. to develop appropriate career services for UGA alumni.
  • Regularly attend division-wide events and meetings including Discover DAR, Townhall, Development meetings, etc.
