The Postdoctoral Scholar will join a project for developing a Digital Twin framework for Enhanced Rock weathering with a goal of using this computational tool as an end-to-end decision support system. The tool would integrate geochemical weathering and reactivity potential assessment utilizing public geochemical databases with high-resolution (30m) spatial soil characterization. The postdoc would then use simplified reactive transport models and multi-element, multi-end member mixing models to simulate realistic soil-rock mixtures, explicitly incorporating spatial variability, measurement errors and diverse sampling strategies (pooling, grinding). Overall, this new framework would help assess how farmers/companies with different financial resources and risk aversion evaluate tradeoffs in monitoring/reporting costs vs certainty of carbon sequestration, while accounting for soil heterogeniety. The Postdoctoral Scholar will work primarily with Prof. Tushar Mittal at Penn State to:
