RN Infection Control 7950

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for activities aimed at protecting and reducing the risk of infections for the patient, health care employees, visitors and others in the health care environment. Monitors and analyzes infection control data, advocates, educates, and leads improvement projects to prevent, eliminate and/or reduce infections.

Job Functions

1. Collects, analyzes and manages critical infectious disease data.
2. Provides consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies.
3. Applies epidemiological principles, including activities directed at improving patient outcomes.
4. Directs education efforts towards interventions to reduce infection risks.
5. Assures that facilities and services are in compliance with infection control practices as well as local, state, and regulatory infection control practices.
6. Evaluates products and procedures.
7. Implements changes mandated by regulatory and licensing agencies.
8. Ensures provision of high-quality services in a cost-efficient manner.
9. Participates in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety activities.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Employment Requirements

Minimum Education/Work Experience/License/Certifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor's degree
• Three years of experience in an acute care clinical setting
• Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of infectious diseases and epidemiology
• Knowledge of performance improvement principles, tools and techniques
• Strong skills in data analysis, problem solving and conflict resolution
• Ability to act as a leader and change agent in a consultative role
• Ability to change work locations with or without notice
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous infection control experience
• Infection Control certification
• Experience with improvement methodologies
