The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) is seeking an Applications Programmer II to work in a collaborative environment serving the needs of digital learning at UCF. Along with seasoned and talented junior developers, the team members will contribute to the overall standard of programming and architecture for interactive projects and applications in support of teaching, learning, and departmental operations.

This is an Auxiliary funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Responsibilities:


  • Design, code, test, debug, integrate, modify, and document applications in support of digital learning.

  • Assist with the implementation of user experience designs, database, and back-end to support the digital learning application.

  • Assist with analysis and troubleshooting of issues with features in applications, websites, or utility tools in support of digital learning.

  • Provide end-user support in collaboration with senior developers, support staff, via faculty development venues, and co-authoring of technical documents.

  • Research and recommend improvements to applications/technologies based on industry standards in support of digital learning.

  • Provide necessary data and reports of custom solutions for team, departmental, and teaching and learning custom-developed apps.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, engineering management, information systems, or digital media.

  • Experience with all phases of applications programming using front-end, back-end, and database technologies, including but not limited to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, PHP, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.

  • Experience with programming frameworks such as Flask, Django, Symphony, Express, Backbone, React, Angular, and Laravel.

  • Experience developing and deploying applications on Linux/Unix web servers and cloud infrastructures like AWS.

  • Experience developing unit tests and continuous integration practices.

  • Experience with the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standard.

  • Experience with all phases of applications development compliant with industry standards and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

  • Work collaboratively in a team.

  • Experience with mentoring, providing documentation, and end-user support.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to participate in multiple projects effectively.
