Summary
Responsible for the coordination and planning of Infection Control activities. Provides guidance and consultation in the development, planning, and coordination of infection control. Conducts relevant investigations and develop reports pertinent to clinical risk management issues. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Report communicable diseases to local and state health departments and complete public health department forms as needed -Utilize performance improvement methodology as a means of enacting change. -Develops an annual surveillance plan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data. -Maintains records of actual potentially infectious patients and reports pertinent information to county, state, and federal agencies as required by law. -Provides formal and informal education programs to hospital personnel as necessary or when directed. Job Description Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Infection Control, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred; Masters in Healthcare Management or another relevant field is acceptable. 2. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire; if not CIC at hire, must be prepared to sit for CIC within 2 years of hire. 3. Current Massachusetts' licensure as a registered nurse preferred but not required. 4. Minimum 3 years of related work experience required. 5. Knowledge and experience in a. regulatory and other requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control b. implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare associated infections c. application of commonly used performance metrics including Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS, others Special Requirements 1. Must be available to work in the case of a facility-declared emergency. 2. Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews. 3. Must be available to work on-site.
