What to Expect
As an Electrical Technician specializing in test equipment assembly, you will play a vital role in supporting engineering teams. Your responsibilities encompass the assembly of diverse form factor test fixtures, electronic enclosures, and custom rack-mounted testing equipment utilized in component-level PCB testing. We expect candidates for this role to possess a wealth of experience, enabling them to independently construct electrical panels and harnesses according to provided blueprints.
What You'll Do
- Test Fixture Design and Development: Design and engineer custom test fixtures from scratch based on provided documentation, which may be sparse or lacking in detail. Leverage internal resources and collaborate with engineering teams to identify design gaps, propose solutions, and deliver safe, functional, and robust test systems. Ensure all designs are thoroughly documented and aligned with project requirements
- High-Density Harness Assembly: Interpret complex harness drawings, execute precise cuts, strips, crimps, and assemble high-density harnesses with meticulous attention to detail. Follow specifications with a high level of accuracy and ensure that all work adheres to safety and quality standards
- Electrical System Integration: Take ownership of the integration of electrical systems, utilizing provided schematics to direct component layout, harness routing, and point-to-point wiring. Oversee the assembly of rack-mounted test infrastructure and conduct continuity verification, ensuring all systems are integrated efficiently and meet design criteria
- Comprehensive Documentation: Maintain clear, concise, and comprehensive records of wiring diagrams and connectivity between devices in test setups. Use tools such as MS Excel to document configurations, component specifications, and any modifications or reworks performed
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Independently handle troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, and maintenance on existing test equipment. Document any changes made and conduct thorough testing to ensure continued functionality and reliability
- Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate closely with engineers, purchasing teams, and machine shop personnel to ensure smooth execution of projects. Proactively engage with engineering teams to identify potential issues in designs, suggest improvements, and help devise the most effective approaches for creating test equipment
- Purchasing: Manage and track inventory of consumables, test rack materials, tools, and test equipment through internal and external purchase orders
- Support and Issue Resolution: Act as a technical resource for engineering teams, providing guidance on test equipment and processes. Resolve walk-up task requests with efficiency and expertise, ensuring that all issues are addressed promptly and thoroughly
- Autonomous Time Management: Manage multiple concurrent projects with a high level of autonomy. Prioritize tasks, allocate resources effectively, and meet project deadlines without requiring extensive supervision. Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
What You'll Bring
- Hands-On Experience: Possess a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working with industrial equipment, machine tools, and both hand and power tools
- Harness Expertise: Demonstrate proficiency and hands-on experience in harness construction, including the ability to read and interpret harness diagrams and electrical schematics
- Tool Proficiency: Exhibit proficiency in working with general and electrician tools, including soldering skills
- Shop Environment: Have exposure to a shop fabrication/maker space environment
- Test Fixture Assembly: Prior experience with automated test fixture assembly is highly advantageous
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Solidworks and Altium is a plus
- Metal Fabrication Skills: Metal fabrication skills are an additional bonus
