OUR OPENING

Responsible to be a strategic leader who can initiate action and manage change in a dynamic environment. Provide leadership and leverage experience to develop and grow self-performed carpentry division for commercial building construction. Direct and develop all aspects of the carpentry department, including cost management, estimating, planning and coordination. Provide leadership and communication, promote collaboration and problem-solving resolution, facilitate team development, and develop long-lasting community relationships. Balance long-term thinking and short-term execution.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO AS A PROJECT MANAGER?

Cost Management



  • Develop project strategy; oversee planning and coordination efforts.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within boundaries of company policy and contract specifications.
  • Solicit and maintain consistent workload and ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Ensure all projects are quality-focused, delivered on-time, and within scope and budget.
  • Conduct estimating for all carpentry projects.
  • Manage all financial aspects of projects to protect company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the customer.
  • Oversee and manage project budgets versus actual costs, forecasting, revenues, profits.
  • Develop detailed project plans to track production progress and production goals.
  • Monitor and control project through administrative direction of on-site leadership to ensure project meets or exceeds standards.


Relationship Management



  • Collaborate closely with Superintendents, Foremen, and skilled trades to plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with self-performed carpentry projects.
  • Lead all hiring efforts and training program for team members.
  • Facilitate team development and growth, employee skill development.
  • Promote and create safety-oriented environment; create job specific safety plans, investigate potentially serious situations, and implement corrective measures.
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with owners and other contacts to facilitate project activities.
  • Promote the guiding principles and core values of Journey Group.
  • Must be able and willing to create and maintain a good working relationship with all employees within the team.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED



  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, or related field of study. A minimum of three (3) years of managing commercial construction projects; or the equivalent of education and experience to meet the essential functions of the position.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, processes, and equipment is required. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as construction plans, blueprints, and plan sets.

  • Basic accounting, budgeting, and cost management experience.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, proactive with a sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change, embrace new ideas, and build strong teams.
  • Proficient in applicable computer programs including Microsoft Office and computer-based maintenance and reporting systems.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, safe driving record, and evidence of insurability is required / preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to safely work in a construction environment.


WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS



  • Work performed either in the field or on job sites (45%) with some office time (55%).
  • Some work takes place in an indoor office setting equipped with a computer, desk, phone, and other typical office equipment.
  • Must be able to inspect details at close range, interact, communicate, and exchange accurate information consistently.
  • Must be able to consistently move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly on job sites with unfinished and uneven surfaces.
  • Some work takes place in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to retain a stationary position for extended periods of time occasionally depending on the task.
  • Must be able to transfer materials ranging from the ground to overhead occasionally.
  • Must be able to move material up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to safely use hand and power tools or other safety equipment on occasion.
  • Travel to other locations is required (mostly day trips).
