Summary

The Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for managing the selection, licensing, access, and lifecycle management of the firm's legal research databases, knowledge tools, and digital collections. This position ensures reliable, cost-effective access to resources that support client work and business development, optimizes user experience across platforms, and collaborates closely with Research and Information Services (IT) to deliver high quality research services access firmwide.

The Electronic Resources Librarian also contributes to the implementation of RS&S knowledge management initiatives. This position works closely with the Director of RS&S, Information Services, attorneys and other Stinson staff to create knowledge management solutions that make the firm more efficient in the practice of law.

Required Education & Experience



  • Master of Library and Information Science, or comparable degree.
  • 1+ years of experience managing electronic resources in a law firm, legal information provider, academic law library, or similar environment.
  • Familiarity with KM platforms, intranet/portal design (e.g., SharePoint), and integrations with research tools.
  • Cataloging/metadata competencies


Preferred Education & Experience



  • Demonstrated experience with:

    • Major legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis+, Bloomberg Law, Practical Law, VitalLaw, Law360, HeinOnline).
    • Docket/filings tools (e.g., PACER, Courtlink, Docket Navigator) and news/analytics resources.
    • Authentication and access management (SAML/SSO, OpenAthens/EZproxy, IP authentication).


  • Experience in law firm or large professional services environment with multi-office, global access considerations.

  • System Administration (75%)

    • Resource lifecycle management:

      • Evaluate, select, and implement electronic resources aligned to practice needs and client priorities.
      • Oversee onboarding, authentication, configuration, and integration of databases, e-books, treatises, dockets, analytics, and workflow tools.
      • Assist/Manage renewals and cancellations; conduct trials and pilots; coordinate rollouts and migrations.


    • Licensing and vendor relations:

      • Serve as primary vendor liaison on all technical matter; resolve performance and access issues.
      • Track contract obligations and key dates; maintain accurate records and documentation.


    • Access, authentication, and systems:

      • Administer IP ranges, SAML/SSO, and mobile access; partner with IS on security and MFA as needed.
      • Configure integrations with SharePoint/intranet, KM platforms, research portals, LMS, and citation/link resolvers.
      • Maintain catalog/ERM metadata for e-resources; ensure accurate holdings, linking, and discovery.


    • Analytics:

      • Collect and analyze usage to inform decisions and demonstrate value.
      • Prepare reports and dashboards for leadership; recommend consolidation or alternatives.


    • Service excellence and training:

      • Create user guides, release notes, and how-to content; update intranet pages and resource directories.
      • Provide support for access issues; triage tickets and coordinate vendor escalation.


    • Compliance and risk:

      • Ensure license compliance, fair use, and responsible sharing.
      • Partner with IS on data privacy, accessibility, and incident response related to vendor platforms.


    • Process improvement and documentation:

      • Maintain policies, SOPs, and internal documentation for e-resource workflows.
      • Lead projects to streamline acquisitions, renewals, and knowledge delivery.






  • Training & Professional Development (20%)

    • Design and deliver onboarding and training for attorneys, paralegals, staff, and new hires in conjunction with Research team and RS&S Director.
    • Provide assistance and additional outreach to attorneys and staff on electronic resources available to the firm.
    • Collaborate with Research team & RS&S Director to identify gaps in knowledge to improve research services for the firm.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities by attending conferences and/or webinars to stay informed of the latest industry developments.




  • General & Administrative (5%)

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $65,000 The salary range for this position is based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and location. The range is provided as an initial approximation at the time of posting and may vary based on the individual's unique qualifications and experience.
