Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat provides an unparalleled learning experience for college students, offering practical exposure in the defense industry alongside professionals, shaping and supporting the future of submarine innovation.

As a Supply Chain intern you will receive hands-on learning experiences in various departments across the full range of professions that support ongoing business operations. Interns are provided with tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating.

Supply Chain Management/Supplier Development: The Supplier Development Engineer serves as a key player in providing proper oversight of the supply base from a performance perspective (i.e. delivering part/products on time with first time quality, including the assurance of appropriate capacity and capability).

The individuals will be joining the existing team of 8+ engineers and will be exposed and will learn the following:

    Analysis of supply chain data including delivery rates, capacity analysis, bottlenecks, and work with the quality engineers to understand supplier performance
  • Identification of root cause of deficiencies uncovered during assessment
  • Development of Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) addressing root cause of identified issues
  • Manage the execution and follow-through of POA&M actions
  • Support identification and recommendation of supplier investments, audits, or other oversight opportunities
  • Drive to develop a culture of continuous improvement and commitment to excellence

Each intern accepted into the program will be given a Mentor for duration of the internship. As an intern you will have the opportunity to gain real life experience in the work force, gain insight into the internal processes of a major corporation, and apply the skills acquired in school related to the Supply Chain Supplier Development side of the business.

This program requires a minimum commitment of 8 weeks during the Summer 2026 Season.

This is not a remote opportunity.

Please note you may be assigned to work at any of the following location: Groton CT, and you will need reliable transportation and housing for the duration of your intern assignment.

*You may also be expected to travel on-site to suppliers locally and out of state with other EB team members as applicable.



Qualifications

To be qualified for this position:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
  • Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university
  • At minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2026 to September 2026; part time positions are not available.
  • Working towards a Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Information Technology (IT), Manufacturing Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Assurance Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Systems
  • *You may also be expected to travel on-site to suppliers locally and out of state with other EB team members as applicable.
