Are you a Professional Counselor that enjoys supporting students through their Higher Education journey? Join the Ramily! The fundamental mission of the Winston-Salem State University (
WSSU) Counseling Center is to assist
WSSU students in developing a broader awareness of self while facing and negotiating challenges and obstacles during their stay at Winston-Salem State University.
Responsibilities of the University Counselor include:
- Providing therapy and counseling services to individuals, couples, and groups
- Developing and delivering psychoeducational programming and presentations on topics such as academic problems, alcohol and substance abuse, stress and anxiety, identity issues, eating disorders, and depression
- Providing crisis intervention counseling and responding to emergencies
- Planning and executing outreach activities on topics such as substance abuse, test anxiety, stress management, and severe mental illness
- Providing professional support services to faculty and staff regarding student concerns
- Planning and implementing new counseling programs and services
- Assisting in planning and executing university wide programs, orientation, freshman assembly, freshman seminar, and classroom guidance information sessions for new and returning students
- Assisting in the administration of the University Counseling Center

- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field
- 4-5 years of relevant experience
- Associate or Fully Licensed therapist in the state of North Carolina
- Applicants with provisional licenses must achieve full licensure within two years of hiring
