Position Summary
The IT Technical Associate (Hospital & Clinics Security Systems Technology Specialist) position performs safety and administrative support functions for Support Services Administration. Responsibilities include but are not limited to overseeing the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of security technologies and access control systems throughout the hospital. This includes ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors by managing security systems, technologies, and processes that protect hospital assets, data, and facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the hospital's access control systems, including card readers, biometric systems, and electronic locks.
  • Oversee the creation, modification, and deletion of access credentials for employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure access control systems comply with hospital policies and security protocols.
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of security equipment such as surveillance cameras (CCTV), AI technology systems, alarms, intrusion detection systems, and emergency notification systems.
  • Coordinate the integration of various security technologies (e.g., surveillance cameras, alarm systems, access control) to create a seamless security management system.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure technology solutions align with hospital infrastructure and security needs.
  • Analyze data from access control and security systems to identify potential security breaches or incidents.
  • Lead investigations related to security incidents, using technology to gather evidence and improve response protocols.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and assist in post-incident evaluations to improve security practices.
  • Develop and implement ongoing training programs for staff on security systems, access control procedures, and emergency protocols (including downtime procedures).
  • Ensure that all security technologies and access control measures are in compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA), and industry best practices.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in security technologies, access control, and healthcare security regulations.
  • Assist in coordinating Emergency Preparedness training, drills, and readiness exercises for the Hospital.
  • Assist in the coordination of Hospital safety inspections.
  • Assist in the collaboration with UI Health for Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) compliance issues.
  • Assist in the completion of required documentation for regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in monthly, semi-annual, and random Environment of Care Surveys of all Hospital, Outpatient Care and offsite clinics.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor Degree - Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management, related information management field or a clinical area of study.
  2. Minimum of four (4) years professional level IT experience within Systems Administration & Operations which includes demonstrated experience in architecture, configuration, planning, development, installation, maintenance, of enterprise computer and software systems mission critical hardware and infrastructure


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare security systems is highly preferred.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or other relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Certifications related to specific access control or surveillance technology vendors (e.g., Genetec, Honeywell, AMAG) may be beneficial.
