  • Provide both direct and indirect patient care alongside physicians in a dynamic pediatric setting.
  • Prepare patients for exams, treatments, and minor procedures.
  • Assist with diagnostic and laboratory tasks.
  • Deliver patient education and support.
  • Perform a variety of administrative and clinical duties to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate ongoing professional relationships with referring PCP provider, therapists, schools and other legal and community resources.
  • Provide thorough education of psychotropic medication uses, indications, risks, benefits and adverse effects.
  • Provide phone triage, coordinating communication between patient caregiver and provider, maintaining accurate thorough documentation and communicating appropriate follow up recommendation.
  • Coordinating with insurance companies in completing prior authorizations for prescribed medications or procedures.
  • Answers questions and provides teaching as appropriate to scope and licensure or as directed by provider to patients and family members regarding health maintenance and medical illnesses
  • Documents appropriate information in the patient's electronic chart. Complete patient forms and requests medical records/correspondence to be scanned into the electronic health record.
  • Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing
  • Assist provider with patient examination, procedures and emergencies
  • Provide and document advice for home care of illness/condition conducting follow up phone calls regarding patient's health and progress as directed by provider.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
  • Prepare and assist provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor surgical procedures and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider as appropriate to scope and licensure
  • Demonstrate knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately
  • Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps as directed, and as appropriate to scope and licensure.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa

Other:

  • Level 3 Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
