Job Description
Summary As a member of the Care Team within the Dean of Students office, the Basic Needs Program Manager assists students facing basic need insecurities primarily related to housing, food, clothing, medical insurance, and financial concerns by connecting them to a broad network of resources and support services in a manner that promotes dignity. Essential Functions
- Serve as a student basic needs content expert, researching best practices and national trends; provide Care Team with updates and training regarding basic needs resources; and identify areas of growth and learning opportunities for the Care Team and campus.
- Meet individually with students experiencing basic need insecurities; identify appropriate resources; assist students in navigating barriers and connecting with resources.
- Assist with Care Team case referrals as needed.
- Document all casework in the University's Maxient system.
- Partner with MU Extension's Family Nutrition Education Program (FNEP) to facilitate student access to Missouri's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
- Collaborate with on-campus partners to assist in the facilitation of services for students with basic need insecurities. Campus partners include but are not limited to: MU Extension, Student Financial Aid and the Office for Financial Success, MU Housing, Campus Dining Services, and Tiger Pantry.
- Build relationships with off-campus community members and organizations to increase Care Team's network and facilitate student access to city, county, state, and federal resources.
- Coordinate daily operations of the Care Closet; determine and maintain relevant inventory.
- Review emergency fund requests and make recommendations to the Asst. Dean of Students/Care Team.
- Represent the University/Dean of Students office in external committees on issues associated with student basic needs, including state-wide or University of Missouri System meetings.
- Participate in programming sponsored by the Dean of Students office and other campus partners when appropriate.
- Educate students, faculty, and staff about the prevalence of student basic needs insecurity and campus response.
- Develop and execute strategic educational programs and events, such as basic needs resource fairs, student basic needs committee/ambassador program, tabling, Care Closet supply drive, etc.
- Collaborate with the Student Affairs Marketing and Communications Team, Care Team Asst. Director, and Asst. Dean of Students on the development and implementation of a communication plan for the Care Team.
- Collaborate with the Student Affairs Assessment Team, Care Team Asst. Director, and Asst. Dean of Students on setting and measuring key performance indicators for the Care Team.
- Perform related duties as assigned or required.
- Understand responsibilities with respect to FERPA, Title IX, and other compliance requirements.
Shift
Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department, especially during the weeks and weekends of Mizzou Alternative Break trips. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one year experience in a higher education or comparable setting working with students in a counseling, mentoring, or advisory role.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Possess the ability to interact effectively with a variety of students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
- Ability to function independently and as part of a team.
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, higher education, educational psychology, or a related field.
- Skills relevant to establishing and maintaining successful partnerships with students, student organizations, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to compile, manipulate and analyze statistical program data and generate reports.
- Ability to utilize a variety of electronic media.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Range: $52,915.20 - $64,000 per year, paid monthly GGS/PAT Level: 010 University Title: Program Manager II Student Support Services Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.
