Summary: Analyzes and corrects electrical problems, installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment

Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs)

  • Install power supply wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus for new machines and equipment, including robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
  • Connect power supply wires, cables, and wiring between machines and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical components such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, relays, switches, printed circuit boards, and electric motor bearings.
  • Test malfunctioning machinery and collaborate with other maintenance workers to identify and resolve issues.
  • Program and operate automated machinery using robot controllers, teach pendants, and programmable controllers to verify functionality and repairs.
  • Plan and install wiring layouts, conduit, and electrical systems in vessels.
  • Diagnose and repair faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  • Inspect electrical systems and identify potential hazards or needed repairs.
  • Follow safe working procedures in compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Determine replacement needs or new materials and develop logical approaches to resolve problems.
  • Analyze circuits, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to install, repair, calibrate, or replace electronic devices and systems.
  • Receive and follow instructions, specifications, and diagrams from supervisors for scheduled and emergency electrical work.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of electrical theory, statutory codes, material properties, and equipment operation principles.
  • Start up and shut down equipment safely, following company and OSHA procedures.
  • Install, repair, and maintain communication and power distribution cables, including splicing and servicing electronic components.
Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Journeyman level or higher competency. Certified in 'HOT' work. Certified in application of ARC FLASH controls.
  • Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of 4-years of related experience.

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must be able to climb or descend one or more set of steep stairs or vertical ladders both inside or outside in all weather conditions. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception. May be required to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products.

Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank, the stern ramp of a vessel and/or a vertical ladder. Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift. May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock, plane, or a boat unassisted. Must meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life jacket and an immersion suit without assistance in one minute or less. Must also move quickly without assistance to any designated lifeboat station.
