Application Window Open date: October 27, 2025 Next review date: Wednesday, Nov 26, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Tuesday, Apr 27, 2027 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Anatomic Pathologist The Department of Pathology, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) are seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time position at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs HealthCare System with clinical service, research, and teaching responsibilities primarily in surgical pathology, cytopathology and autopsy service. This position will hold a faculty appointment at UCSF at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the HS Clinical or Clinical X series. Candidates must have an MD (or equivalent) degree, be licensed to practice in California (or another state) and be Board Certified (or eligible at the time of hire) in Anatomic Pathology. Candidates must have successfully completed (at time of hire) fellowship training in Surgical Pathology or Cytopathology (or one or more years of independent sign-out experience in surgical pathology and/or cytopathology) and another Pathology subspecialty training (Gastrointestinal/Hepatobiliary Pathology preferred, but others considered). For candidates that have successfully completed (at time of hire) fellowship training in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology, an additional Pathology subspecialty training (such as Gastrointestinal/Hepatobiliary Pathology) is preferred, but not required. Additional interest/experience in Digital Pathology, Molecular Pathology, and/or Laboratory Informatics is also preferred. Candidates must have demonstrated research publications, teaching experience, and excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Clinical duties will include sign-out responsibilities in cytopathology, surgical pathology, autopsy, frozen sections, inpatient and outpatient fine needle aspiration biopsy performance, rapid on-site adequacy assessments, night and weekend call, and presentation at tumor boards, interdepartmental conferences, and committees as assigned. Participation in trainee teaching, research, and quality improvement activities (including assistance in development, review and revision of standard operating procedures and compliance with accreditation standards) is expected. Championing/leading and participating in LIS system modernization (and Digital Pathology) as opportunities become available are also expected. Appointment and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and training.
