The Scientific Writer is responsible for collaborating with individuals across various departments or areas of expertise within the organization to prepare a diverse array of scientific communication materials. They will focus on developing and refining applications, scientific manuscripts, and other research-related documents. This role requires strong expertise in scientific writing and editing, with an emphasis on maintaining clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the intended audience.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Scientific Communication Development: Collaborate with diverse teams to assist in the preparation and enhancement of grant applications, scientific manuscripts, and other research communication materials. Provide guidance on grantsmanship, language standardization, and editorial support across various scientific applications.

  • Editorial Support: Edit and refine technical manuscripts, fellowship applications, clinical research protocols, and other scientific communication materials written by staff, researchers, or trainees. Ensure content accuracy, clarity, grammar, and compliance with established guidelines.

  • Proposal Structuring and Formatting: Ensure proposals are effectively structured, formatted, and aligned with the specific requirements outlined in funding announcements. Assist in developing proposal narratives in coordination with relevant stakeholders.

  • Graphics Development: Offer advice on and occasionally develop graphics for proposals to enhance their visual presentation and overall impact.

  • Collaborative Engagement: Work independently and collaboratively with investigators, research administrative personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure the seamless creation and refinement of scientific documents.

  • Other Duties: Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned to support the broader mission of scientific communication and address the evolving needs of the organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage positively and professionally with faculty, scientific staff, and trainees across varying levels of seniority. Proficient in fostering collaborative working relationships to achieve common objectives.

  • Technical Proficiency: Aptitude to comprehend intricate technical subjects, amalgamate diverse lines of evidence, and adeptly employ this comprehension in technical writing. Proficiency in translating complex scientific concepts into comprehensible and engaging content.

  • Software Proficiency: Excellent command over Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat applications. Capable of leveraging these tools effectively for document creation, editing, and formatting.

  • Team Collaboration: Ability to function both autonomously and as an integral part of a collaborative team. Proficiency in contributing constructively within a team environment to achieve collective goals.

  • Deadline Management: Demonstrated capability to adhere to stringent deadlines and perform effectively under pressure. Proven track record of delivering high-quality work within specified timeframes.

Education Required: Master's Degree

Pay Range: $56,538 - $87,896, pay based on experience
