Position Summary:

The Adult ESL (English as a Second Language) adult teacher will be responsible for leading ESL classes to the adults of the school community at CS 61, including but not limited to parents, grandparents, and guardians of students. They will be responsible for creating lessons and support with outreach to the students in the class. The goal of the Adult ESL is to provide additional and accessible resources for the families in our school community, while also increasing our family engagement and community involvement.

Essential Duties:



  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • The Adult ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher will be expected to lead weekly ESL classes to the adults of the school community at CS 61, including but not limited to parents, grandparents, and guardians of students.
  • Teach English language skills to non-native speakers, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the curriculum and meet the needs of individual students.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their language skills.
  • Create a positive learning environment that promotes active participation, critical thinking, and creativity.
  • Keep accurate attendance records of the students.
  • Collaborate with the parent engagement coordinator, community school director, and other relevant stakeholders in order to ensure the classes are consistent and benefiting the families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree in social work, education or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills required.
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably in an ESL or EFL context.
