The Position

External innovation is a critical part of Roche's strategy, and the Corporate Business Development (CBD) function leads all efforts on the Pharma business development continuum starting from searching for and evaluating new partnering opportunities, to negotiating and executing deals (M&A and licensing), as well as managing alliances.

The Opportunity

As our new Head of Oncology Search & Evaluation, you will lead a dedicated team of scientific and business experts to shape the future of our oncology portfolio. You will be at the forefront of identifying and advancing strategic partnerships that bring groundbreaking science to patients worldwide. This is a unique opportunity to blend your deep scientific expertise with people leadership to make a tangible impact on our organization and in the fight against cancer.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team focused on identifying and evaluating new partnership opportunities in oncology.

  • Shape and co-own our external partnership strategy in collaboration with senior leaders across our Research, Development, and Commercial organizations.

  • Influence our therapeutic area strategy by providing expert insights on emerging science, industry trends, and the competitive landscape.

  • Build and nurture relationships with external biotech companies, academic institutions, and venture capital partners, acting as a key ambassador for Roche.

  • Drive the scientific evaluation process for potential collaborations, efficiently liaising with internal experts and assessing opportunities from initial identification through to the start of formal due diligence.

  • Prioritize external opportunities, leveraging your deep research and development experience to identify key risks and strategic potential alongside internal experts..

  • Champion a collaborative and selfless team environment, working flexibly with project leaders to advance the most promising external innovations.

Who You Are

We are looking for a leader who is passionate about science and driven to make a difference. You are an excellent communicator and a natural collaborator who can build relationships with and influence senior leaders both internally and externally. You thrive in a dynamic environment and bring a strategic, "can-do" mindset to your work.

  • You hold a advanced degree in medical, biological, or chemical sciences (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD).

  • You have a minimum of 12 years of experience in drug development or biomedical research within the field of oncology.

  • Proven experience in people leadership, including coaching, developing talent, and fostering a positive team culture.

  • Prior experience in a business development or search and evaluation capacity within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess novel science, understand emerging industry trends, and articulate complex scientific and strategic concepts to diverse audiences.

Relocation benefits are available for this position.

On-site position in South San Francisco.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is between $252,700 and $469,300.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
