Director of Inpatient Nursing Services

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. The Director of Inpatient Nursing Services is responsible for maintaining the overall clinical and professional operations of the assigned nursing areas. Directs, monitors and evaluates the department activities. Works collaboratively with the hospital management team to achieve the targeted goals and positive clinical outcomes. Directs nursing and patient care that is high quality and cost-effective and in accordance with government regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements. Mentor unit managers to help implement evidence-based practices to drive quality patient care, grow and develop leadership skills, and interact with unit staff to improve employee engagement. Participates in the development of strategies and contributes to the achievement of the department and hospitals vision and mission.

Duties:

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills through collaboration with all healthcare team members, patients payors, vendors, and community members assuring optimal outcomes and stressing customer relations.
  • Demonstrates the importance of Service Excellence in job related functions and interactions. Rewards those who commit to the standards on a regular basis and during the performance appraisal.
  • Builds a culture of safety and quality that is open to change and receptive to improving clinical outcomes.

  • Demonstrates the ability to be innovative and exercises independent judgment in recognizing and resolving problems. Resolves problems in a logical and sound manner in a timely fashion.
  • Conducts meaningful performance planning and review with staff members as demonstrated by a developmental approach to involve the staff in resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintains and reports performance improvement activities. Reports relevant information regarding patient care and departmental operation to the CNO and applicable healthcare team members as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of The Joint Commission standards, DHEC licensing standards and governmental agencies. Develops plans to meet compliance with the standards and improve hospital services and processes.
  • Represents nursing areas and assigned patient care areas during regulatory and The Joint Commission surveys.
  • Integrates patient care functions and hospital functions. Serves on various management teams, task forces and committees.
  • Develops and adheres to an operating and capital budget. Is accountable for effective utilization of resources.
  • Evaluate and plan technology needs for support of an electronic medical record. Works collaboratively with IS clinical documentation coordinator to meet staff needs.
  • Ensures proper utilization of supplies to maintain appropriate inventory and reduce waste.
  • Maintains productivity levels for all areas ensuring that the quality of service provided meets hospital established standards. Evaluate and organize staffing driven data for use in developing staffing guidelines and forecasting staffing needs.
  • Evaluate and organize capacity bed meetings and patient flow from admission to discharge.
  • Responds to a changing healthcare environment by promoting a positive attitude during changes impacting the department and hospital.
  • Reviews and plans an approach to improving patient, physician and employee satisfaction survey results based on trends.
  • Encourages continuous learning through mentoring, education and knowledge sharing.
  • Reviews, revises and develops policies, procedures and protocols to achieve and maintain clinical standards.
  • May be requested to support and participate in other assigned duties, projects and/or organizational activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education: BSN required; Master's in related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of five years nursing management preferred. Progressive responsibility in healthcare management and leadership. Demonstrated proficiency with common computer based applications, knowledge of nursing clinical practices and management, and knowledge of effective management and supervisory practices.

License or Registration Requirements: Current SC Nursing license. Current BLS and ACLS

Training: CPI training within 90 days of hire.
