Media Lab Coordinator

Primary Function: To coordinate and direct the operation of the Media Lab facility for the Media Production program. This is a full-time, 10-month position.

General Responsibilities:

  • Supervise operations of the College's TV studio, audio recording facilities, editing and post-production facilities and related areas in the Media Lab.
  • Assist prior to and during class productions and demonstrations. This may involve the set up of cameras, lighting equipment, microphone and audio equipment, and computer software in the following classes: Audio Production, Television Production, Multimedia Production, Multimedia Video, Multimedia Graphics and Animation, Portable Video, Editing and Post Production, Audio Recording and Mixdown, Advanced TV, Advanced Audio
  • Assist students outside of scheduled class time. Provide technical and creative assistance to students working on out of class assignments.
  • Set up and monitor security measures related to equipment use in the lab and oversee proper use of equipment. Oversee the numerous security cameras and monitor activity in the lab.
  • Hire and supervise student assistants.
  • Develop procedures and monitor procedures for checking out equipment for off-campus use. Multiple courses allow students to borrow media equipment for use throughout the semester; ensure the equipment is working and ready to go. Ensure all components are returned in good shape and examine all equipment for damages and missing parts.
  • Create, post, and maintain routine maintenance as directed by College technician and engineering consultant.
  • Implement and support Continuous Improvement Initiative at the College.
  • Maintain inventory of all lab equipment and portable equipment. This involves numerous in studio components and hundreds of media devices which are loaned out to students for out of class work.
  • Learn new media related software and test it out before classroom demonstrations to ensure everything works correctly.
  • Minimize down time in the lab by quickly solving equipment malfunctions and/or providing temporary solutions to keep the lab operating as usual.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and software issues. Contact the engineer/service centers for equipment maintenance and repairs. Contact Computer Services for computer/software updates and repairs.
  • Periodically attend class lectures in the classes mentioned previously and meet with Media Production faculty to stay current with new technologies, software and project assignment changes. Communicate with all instructors on a regular basis - keeping them up to date on lab activity, discuss their equipment/software needs and set-up the lab and equipment for their classroom instruction.
  • Research and order new equipment and software. Handle shipping tracking and receipt of equipment and supplies.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Expanded responsibilities for Media Production Program as well as support for Theater, Journalism, and East 40:

  • Assist with the creation of engaging content for the social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.).
  • Assist in the development of creative posts (videos, stories, reels, and graphics) that highlight student involvement and program achievements.
  • Monitor audience engagement, respond to comments, and encourage community interaction.
  • Organize and maintain a library of digital media assets. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student leaders to plan promotional campaigns for productions.
  • Support outreach efforts to attract new audiences and potential students.
  • Assist in coordinating with Marketing or Public Relations departments for cross-promotion.
  • Respect privacy, copyright, and media release policies when posting content.
  • Work with directors, designers, and cast members to capture the creative process authentically.

Organizational Relationships: Responsible to the Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; work under the direction of the full-time faculty member in the Media Production program for the performance of daily duties.

Performance Standards: Satisfactory performance standards will be established by the Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Qualifications: Education: Attainment of a bachelor's degree in media field is required; Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Aesthetic, critical abilities; ability to work effectively with colleagues, faculty and students. Experience: Previous production experience; technical understanding of media equipment. Marketing and social media experience also preferred.
