Job Summary

The Industrial Engineer supports the Generator Manufacturing Division by designing, optimizing, and scaling manufacturing and assembly processes for diesel and natural gas generator systems. This role focuses on production efficiency, capacity planning, facility layout, tooling, automation, and continuous improvement to meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives aligned with Central Power Systems & Services' mission of first-class customer support.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

(Duties include, but are not limited to, the following)



  • Design, develop, and implement electro-mechanical assembly and test processes for generator systems
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams to ensure design-for-manufacturability (DFM/DFA)
  • Lead prototype, pilot, and pre-production builds to ensure manufacturing readiness
  • Support capacity planning, line balancing, and production expansion initiatives
  • Develop and optimize facility layouts, workstation design, headcount models, and material flow within the manufacturing facility
  • Identify tooling, fixtures, and equipment requirements and integrate them into production processes
  • Identify automation opportunities; define requirements and evaluate return on investment (ROI)
  • Work with internal teams and external vendors to develop and implement tooling and automation solutions
  • Ensure manufacturing processes meet volume, quality, cost, and safety targets
  • Support quality initiatives including DOE, gage R&R, SPC, and process qualification activities
  • Define production data requirements and support integration with ERP, MRP, and MES systems
  • Partner with Quality and Supply Chain teams to develop and maintain effective suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives supporting safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required



  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or related)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment


Preferred



  • Experience in generator manufacturing, power systems, heavy equipment, or electromechanical assemblies
  • Experience in high-volume or mixed-model manufacturing environments
  • Proven experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing and scaling production
  • Experience with DOE, gage R&R, SPC, and process validation
  • Experience designing tooling and fixtures for manufacturing environments
  • Experience implementing automation into production processes
  • Familiarity with ERP, MRP, and MES systems

Physical Demands and Work Environment



  • Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb stairs in a manufacturing environment
  • May be exposed to noise, machinery, and industrial equipment
