Summary:

The Spanish Interpreter will provide patients, guardians, and staff access to accurately interpret via face-to-face encounters during designated hours noted in the designated broadcasting system. Spanish Interpreters are bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish to interpret health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients/guardians and Cook Children's health care providers. Provides Spanish Interpretation and Translation for all aspects of emergency care and inpatient care. Act as a Language Liaison between the patient, guardians, and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitates acquisition of Interpreter Services for non-Spanish Languages (via OPI/over the phone interpreter, VRI/video remote interpreter and/or on-site interpreter contract services).

Hours: Mon. - Thurs. 0800-1830

Note: Selected Candidate must be able to train at our Fort Worth Medical Center 4 - 6 weeks before starting position at Prosper Medical Center.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in both the English and Spanish languages.

  • Familiar with medical terminology preferred.

  • Previous interpretation/translation experience preferred.

  • Basis Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of employment.

  • All applicants are tested to determine their Spanish proficiency level and must meet the Spanish proficiency level defined by Cook Children's Health Care System. Testing will be administrated by a contracted testing service before completion of the employment process.
