Description A Brief Overview

Non-Registered Polysomnography Technologist performs in-lab sleep testing, Home Sleep Apnea Testing (HSAT), patient care and education and works under the general supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, the Supervisor and Medical Directors to provide comprehensive testing for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. The Technologist may need to travel to various sleep lab locations based on department needs to cover patient care and other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do

  • Perform testing procedures: PSG, titration studies, MSLT, MWT, PAP Nap, HSAT and other sleep procedures; and provide effective care according to UH Sleep Center protocols.
  • Provide education and age appropriate care to patients and families through the entire age spectrum, including 0 through 18 years, adults, and geriatric populations.
  • Performs calibration procudure, identifies and corrects equipment malfunctions, performs :lights out and lights on procedures to ensure an artifact-free recording.
  • Perform appropriate scoring of both adult and pediatric sleep studies.
  • Collaborates with Sleep Center staff, and members of other disciplines to ensure a strong team and contribute to the achievement of the operational goals of the assigned area.
  • Takes responsibility for adherence to professional standards, self-development, and participation in quality improvement activities.
  • Uses PPE and cleans and disinfects equipment per hospital and department policy.

  • Attends department meetings and in-services
  • Completes monthly inter-scorer reliability tests
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
