The Genomics Team within R&D Discovery and Technology Futures Team is looking for an energetic and innovative Senior Scientist with deep expertise in genomics and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to drive biomarker discovery projects. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists that specializes across NGS, bioinformatics, and molecular assay development. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has strong wet-bench and data analysis skills, is an effective independent contributor, and thrives as a team player in a collaborative environment.

What you can expect:
  • Perform diverse Next Generation Sequencing workflows (e.g. WGS, transcriptome, and methylome) and analyze the data to evaluate sequencing performance.

  • Use and maintain cutting-edge genomics equipment, such as Illumina and Oxford Nanopore sequencers and digital PCR instruments.

  • Identify, develop, and execute novel NGS and genomics strategies to advance discovery power and opportunities.

  • Scout and evaluate cutting-edge sequencing technologies for their application to biomarker discovery and diagnostics.

  • Leverage established and emerging bioinformatics tools to process, analyze, and visualize sequencing data for biomarker discovery (e.g. genomic variants).

  • Design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data, and communicate results and conclusions to diverse audiences, including IDEXX senior leadership.

  • Extract and QC nucleic acids from a variety of samples for NGS and dPCR (e.g. clinical tissues, liquid biopsy, and cell models).

  • Work collaboratively within the Genomics team to convert biomarkers into molecular assays and across cross-functional R&D teams to support larger multi-omics objectives.

  • Perform data quality control and troubleshooting, maintain accurate documentation, and continually improve lab infrastructure and workflows.

  • Maintain a world-class molecular lab alongside other wet lab scientists.

What you need to succeed:
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genomics, or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working with and developing protocols for a wide variety of sample types, such as fresh-frozen and FFPE tissues and blood/plasma/serum.

  • Hands-on experience with and demonstrated understanding of Illumina and Oxford Nanopore sequencers and instruments that quantify and quality control nucleic acids (e.g. tapestation, qubit, nanodrop).

  • Hands-on experience with and demonstrated understanding of at least two of the following NGS strategies: whole genome, whole exome, transcriptome, amplicon/targeted, and methylome sequencing.

  • Hands-on experience with bioinformatic tools to process and analyze sequencing data.

  • Experience with a broad range of molecular biology and analytical techniques.

  • Detail-oriented and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and interpret results.
