Powered by our highly skilled workforces, we provide expert consultation on network and weapons systems acquisition programs, maintenance/modernization programs, and sustainment programs with solutions in Digital Transformation, Advanced Engineering, Physical Sciences Research, Platform Lifecycle Support, and Technical Services. Since our establishment, we have demonstrated and perfected our ability to manage the customer's needs, no matter how complex - offering exceptional service and the Precise solution.

Precise Systems seeks a Multi-Omics Scientist to develop, optimize and implement MS methods to detect and quantify known, unknown, and emerging infectious human disease pathogens. DEVCOM Chemical Biological Center (CBC) is the primary Department of Defense technical organization for non-medical chemical and biological defense.

All work is performed on site, in Edgewood, MD, 5 days per week. Remote delivery is not authorized.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with a team to design, test, and deliver liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods to detect proteins, metabolites and lipids.
  • Develop detection methods in the laboratory, optimize and streamline them for field use, troubleshoot processes and equipment, train and prepare for field demonstrations.
  • Curate unique methods to extract both metabolites and lipids from simple and complex mediums such as cell lysates, tissues, bacteria, hair, soil, and other environmental substrates/surfaces.
  • Execute standard biophysical techniques for bottom-up proteomics including protein quantification, protein extraction/isolation, reduction, alkylation, enzymatic digestion, peptide quantification, and peptide concentration normalization.
  • Validate and optimize metabolomics and lipidomics workflows for MS analysis including sample preparation techniques like BAW, Bligh-Dyer, MTBE, and Matyash extraction methods.
  • Analyze data generated from multi-omics experimentation including database sequence searching, algorithm etic interpretation of the data sets, and visualization.
  • Perform metabolite purification and quantification procedures such, solid phase extraction, and C18 clean up strategies followed by a Dansylation assay and metabolite concentration normalization.
  • Utilize portable and high-resolution mass spectrometers namely, Thermo Eclipse, Bruker timsTOF Ultra 2, Bruker timsTOF HT, and Agilent QQQ
  • Utilize other platforms to support MS acquisition including an Evosep LC, Thermo Ultimate, LC, and Thermo Vanquish LC.
  • Develop workflows, optimize and streamline for use in field environments, and troubleshoot processes and equipment to train and prepare for field demonstrations
  • Typical samples could be simple or complex, individual or pooled, and require targeted and untargeted approaches.
  • Samples may be of human origin or BSL2 near neighbor, simulant, or surrogate pathogens of military relevance
  • The laboratory is well supported, with unique capabilities, and opportunities for publication and presentations.
