Job Overview
Operates runway sweeper to maintain a FOD-Free airfield and runway. Work Model: On-site
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Operates radio and coordinates with airfield control tower and operations to sweep aircraft mats, pads, and runways.
- Checks conditions of taxiways and runways and reports discrepancies.
- Checks all fluid levels and refills as required before operating.
- Checks all tires for wear and air before operating.
- Greases and lubricates moving parts as required.
- Operates radio and coordinates with airfield control tower for clearance and directions to where to sweep.
- Checks runways and taxiways prior to airfield opening and reports any discrepancies to air traffic control tower.
- Coordinates with operations to sweep aircraft mats and pad eyes.
- Cleans sweeper as needed.
- Performs minor adjustments in accordance with Daily Operators Checklist.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Tools and equipment within his or her possession
- Using PPE when required
- Timely, cost-effective performance of duties
- Working closely and harmoniously with fellow workers
- Adherence to all Safety rules and regulations
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Must have valid Class B State issued Driver's License.
- Must be able to comprehend, read, speak, and write proficiently in the English language.
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner in diversified situations.
Preferred:
- Sander/ snowplow experience.
- Ability to operate forklifts up to 20,000 and other heavy equipment.
- Preference given to Passenger, Tank and Hazmat endorsements.
- Six (6) months airfield runway and flight line operations and procedures experience to include radio control and ground communications.
Work Conditions:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
- Work hours are subject to change, with overtime work as needed.
- Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, dust odors, and elevated noise levels.
- Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, cement structures and surfaces.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time; sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
- Capable of lifting and/or moving up to 70 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
- Willing to work shift work.
