Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant (Research Assistant). Reporting to the Associate Research Professor in Psychology, this Laboratory/Technical Assistant assists in data collection and analysis of rodent behavior.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
- Performing procedures on animals.
- Cleaning and maintaining behavioral testing equipment.
- Assisting with laboratory management.
- Updating and maintaining data files and associated computer software.
- Performing animal husbandry duties.
- Training and overseeing undergraduate students working in the laboratory.
- Maintaining animals in accordance with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols.

| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

| Equipment Utilized |
- Med Associates equipment and MedPC software; Noldus Ethovision; and Microsoft Excel. Knows or will learn any and all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.

- Laboratory environment. Requires handling and transporting rodents.
- Must be able to lift and move rodent cages and handle and manipulate mice.
- Relevant safety procedures are mandatory.
