What to Expect
As a Lead Validation Engineer focusing on manufacturing reliability of the Tesla Megapack, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability designed into Tesla's industrial energy products is maintained throughout product manufacturing. This role follows the reliability lifecycle of the product from concept to design, development, testing/analysis, manufacturing, and field operation to design in, confirm, and grow exceptional reliability at every stage. You will lead the reliability engineering test lab, partnering with global reliability test partners to streamline environmental stress screening and ongoing reliability testing programs on Megapack components and systems.

What You'll Do
  • Communicate and streamline reliability program requirements for environmental stress screening and ongoing reliability testing at local reliability engineeringlab
  • Determinecomponent/system-level test solutions thatoptimizeproduct reliability and durability, FMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program schedules
  • Work closely with Reliability, Design, and Manufacturing teams tovalidatemanufacturing reliability results and action plans, suggesting design and/or process improvements to address reliability and durability issues based on an understanding of failure root causes
  • Communicatereliability validation plans for components and subsystems, providing guidance on sample size requirements and durations for reliability testing
  • Drive reliability assessments in program reviews and clearly communicate risks in the product lifecycle
  • Influence supplierselectionfor higher reliability andprovideclear guidance on reliability requirements and demonstration to suppliers
  • Provide reliability design guidelines and apply reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement
  • Answer complex questions on global product manufacturing reliability performance across EnergyProducts

What You'll Bring
  • Strong communicationskills and experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Solid mechanical or electrical engineering fundamentals
  • 3-10 years of hands-on experience in hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability testing, and durability testing
  • Understanding ofaccelerated testing methods, governing equations, and physics of failure for different failure mechanisms
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning, and EDX
  • Knowledge of programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis/post-processing
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of reliability warranty analysis and reliability prediction methods
  • Experience working with complex electronic and mechanical systems
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
