Overview

LMI is seeking a skilled Part-Time Operations and Health Policy Consultant. Position is on the staff of a private, government consulting firm located in Tysons, VA. Work is sponsored by Federal Government departments and agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services. This position may be performed remotely in the United States.

The successful applicant will become part of a team dedicated to policy, operations, and analytical support work for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), specifically the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The primary focus will be facilitating application review efforts, ensuring that program applicants are aligned with federal regulations, sub-regulatory guidance, and all other programmatic requirements. However, this position will NOT be involved in direct drafting of policy or in influencing policy decisions made by the government.

Responsibilities

Success in this role comes from a combination of commitment to cross-functional teamwork, outstanding client ethic, self-motivation, a desire to consistently improve in an organization that is dedicated to excellence, excellent communication abilities, skills in data analysis, system testing interest, strong writing acumen, exceptional attention to detail, and a passion for healthcare policy. In this role, you will assist our team in ensuring efficient operations and providing excellent support to our clients.

Each day may require the candidate to:

    Develop and maintain operational plans, guidance documents, instructions, and standard operating procedures as well as public-facing and CMS-internal documents to support program operations
  • Proactively identify gaps that operational and tactical plans and/or technology can resolve
  • Communicate with our team and all stakeholders (e.g., client, sub-contractors, contractors, etc.)
  • Solve complex challenges in a timely and appropriate manner with minimal management oversight and attention to quality
  • Analyze healthcare and application data as well as technical documents using spreadsheets or other analytical tools to track applications, identify trends, and/or identify areas for improvement
  • Research, learn, and apply relevant policy, guidance, and regulations to respond to inquiries
  • Utilize various information systems to perform validation and verification of data by comparing and analyzing from multiple sources and reporting findings in a meaningful way
  • Communicate with systems development experts to maintain tools and applications used to fulfill project requirements; conduct testing of system requirements
  • Document decisions and approved language in a knowledge repository
  • Respond to internal and external questions and inquiries on assigned tasks and projects
  • Contribute to, and participate in, group meetings with clients and stakeholders
  • Apply project management rigor/processes to address issues as and when they arise


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in business management, public policy, health policy, health systems management, public health, public administration, or related discipline
  • Minimum of two years experience in federal consulting or other consulting performing in a client-facing role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), particularly Excel
  • Solid analytical skills and experience with data analysis.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal and writing skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task between complex projects during seasonal peak periods
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of new technical and policy knowledge with minimal guidance
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

DESIRED SKILLS AND BACKGROUND

  • Experience working on HHS or CMS projects
  • Ability to work collaboratively and iterate products with a variety of stakeholders under tight timelines
  • Ability to advocate for technical platforms to augment analytical processes and deliverables, including input into IT business requirements
  • Understanding of federal healthcare programs and policies
  • Willingness to take on task streams in a leadership capacity
  • Proficiency in Smartsheet and other relevant software tools.

Target Salary Range: $90,000 - $110.000
