DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Develops department budget(s) in collaboration with the director, finance, and executive leadership. Monitors expenditures and maintains operational costs within the department budget, utilizing human and material resources in a cost-effective manner.

Ensures 24-hour staffing is appropriate for the level of acuity. Manages the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care

Interviews and hires qualified candidates, ensures orientation and onboarding of new staff, evaluates the performance of staff, and completes personnel functions. Evaluates and documents staff competencies on a regular basis. Coaches staff to foster continued growth and professional development.

Maintains standards of care utilizing clinically appropriate standards set by regulatory, licensing, or specialty organizations. This includes the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses as the foundation for nursing practice. Ensures staff meets the standards and regulatory requirements for accrediting bodies, and state and federal agencies.

Promotes and achieves high satisfaction of external and internal customers. Effectively intercedes with families and/or patients and resolves concerns related to the delivery of health care services.

Holds accountability for expected outcomes and achievements in areas of responsibility. Metrics are subject to ongoing or annual change. Metrics include patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, volume/growth, finance (including revenues and expenses) to meet or beat budgeted expectations, FTE management, man-hour per statistic (or similar measure), staff turnover, and applicable quality metrics.

Manages the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care.

Monitors and oversees time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree

Five (5) years of nursing experience in a hospital setting.

Two (2) years of managerial or supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in business or a healthcare-related field.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
