DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In the role of Special Education Teacher, you will teach incarcerated adults and youths by developing and adapting specialized academic programs tailored to the unique educational and developmental requirements of students with learning impairments. Utilizing a diverse array of remedial techniques, you will implement individualized and small-group instructional strategies to ensure meaningful progress, followed by comprehensive final evaluations for each student. This position demands the consistent monitoring of student behavior to maintain a safe and productive classroom environment, alongside the diagnostic assessment of student potential and a steadfast commitment to helping learners achieve their educational milestones. Furthermore, you will manage administrative duties, including the procurement of classroom supplies, the maintenance of meticulous student records, and the implementation of appropriate corrective actions to address and rectify disruptive behavior.

- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,156.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements:
- You must be in possession of a valid and active professional special education certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. When no candidates possess the named certification, the candidate must be eligible for an Emergency Permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that is appropriate to the position.
- This is a Commonwealth Secondary Diploma facility. An employee assigned to a Commonwealth Secondary Diploma facility who was hired based on eligibility for an Emergency Permit must obtain a valid and active special education certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
