DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in semi-skilled tasks independently or provide assistance to a skilled worker in the routine maintenance and construction activities within a State Park. Your responsibilities will include supporting a more experienced colleague in the upkeep and operation of the park's facilities, buildings, and grounds, utilizing a variety of trade tools. You will be required to operate a chainsaw, provided you have the necessary certification, for tasks such as felling trees, removing branches, and cutting firewood, as well as assisting skilled workers.

Additionally, you will handle equipment like log splitters, chippers, and stump grinders. Your role will also encompass the maintenance, care, and cleaning of vehicles and equipment utilized throughout the park. Ground maintenance duties will involve mowing or trimming grass and weeds with riding mowers, hand mowers, or weed eaters, cutting firewood, collecting litter, loading and transporting materials in dump trucks or pickup trucks, cleaning grills, sweeping paved areas, digging holes and ditches, and clearing drains and culverts. You will also be responsible for site preparation, seeding new turf areas, and planting and maintaining trees and shrubs. Minor repairs to buildings and facilities will be part of your tasks, requiring the use of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other trade tools. You will paint and/or stain park buildings, signs, and gates, and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of restrooms, offices, and other structures, performing minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs or tightening fixtures. It is essential to ensure the safe and proper use and care of all equipment, power tools, and hand tools.

In addition to these duties, you will assist park visitors by providing information in a friendly and helpful manner, complete necessary documentation such as daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records, and leave slips, and may take on a leadership role for other semi-skilled laborers, volunteers, and park staff.
