Job Description

We have an opening for an experienced Production Planner. You will perform a critical role in planning material control, production, and work activities using the National Ignition Facility's (NIF) Manufacturing Resources Planning (MRP) system. You will routinely utilize NIF's MRP system along with other software such as Windchill, Datastream, proprietary system, and user-generated spreadsheets, while also maintaining a NIF repository. This position is in Project Controls within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the E06.2 or E06.3 level depending on qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if selected at the higher level.

You will

  • Integrate input from several sources (e.g. engineering bills of materials, emails, spreadsheets, shot planning systems, telephone calls, etc.) to perform inventory management, production planning and work/material control activities.
  • Provide technical direction to engineering groups, operations staff, and NIF factories to analyze and resolve MRP-related issues.
  • Assist with manufacturing bills of materials, MRP work orders, kit lists, etc. while monitoring and addressing shortages.
  • Coordinate material movements from warehouses to assembly, refurbishment, installation, etc., including secondary operations (e.g. cleaning, baking, etc.)
  • Perform product change impact analysis, initiate and track actions as required for approved engineering changes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve transaction and throughput problems.
  • Document processes associated with NIF's complex product structure and/or customize MP configurations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the E06.3 level

  • Provide professional support to new/expanded material planning, tracking, fulfillment, and other flow strategies, etc. with engineering groups, operations staff, and NIF factories.
  • Troubleshoot multi-faceted issues and resolve advanced transaction and throughput problems. Initiate root-cause analysis and develop actions to ensure against future instances.
  • Utilize in depth knowledge to draft requirement documents for developers (e.g. customizations addressing transaction problems).

Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience utilizing MRP system(s) in one or more of the following areas: inventory, fulfillment, demand, supply, tracking, scheduling, shortage analysis, configuration control, and/or archiving.
  • Ability to quickly gain working knowledge of a MRP system's customized implementations and/or complex product structures.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with experience handling multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously in a dynamic scheduling environment.
  • Experience applying and interpreting organizational practices/policies, techniques, standards, processes, and systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include shiftwork, weekends, and/or on-call service.

Additional qualifications at the E06.3 level

  • Advanced knowledge/experience utilizing all areas of MRP system(s) in traditional and non-traditional production environments.
  • Experience with initial implementations and/or extending uses of MRP.
  • Experience writing requirements documents for developers.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Certification(s) by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS).

Pay Range

$95,820 - $140,712 Annually

$95,820 - $117,312 Annually at the E06.2 level

$114,900 - $140,712 Annually at the E06.3 level

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
