Description

This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

  • Semester students: May 19 to July 25

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Sound Transit's Capital Delivery department oversees design and construction of transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Puget Sound region - Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The Ballard Link Extension station design intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team that oversees our design services and learn how a large regional transit system is managed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification; they are only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

List job duties:



  • Work within the Ballard Link Extension team and agency stakeholders with a focus on delivering high-performing station designs
  • Research of codes, standards, guidelines
  • Research precedents from peer agencies
  • Attend team meetings
  • Review drawings and other relevant project documents
  • Field work and site visits
  • Project management tasks as required



List potential projects that may be assigned:



  • Ballard Link Extension preliminary engineering design



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be current college students in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree program in architecture, urban design, civil engineering, or construction management or a relevant field.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:



  • Understanding of integrated architecture, engineering, planning, urban design, transportation planning, and transit oriented development
  • Demonstrated understanding of building construction elements and design features.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu preferred.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Ability to work autonomously within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of reading construction drawings.
  • Interest in public transportation or infrastructure.
  • General familiarity with building codes and design standards.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.
