LOCATION OF (2) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, MIDDLE TENNESSEE MENTAL HEALTH INSTITUTE, DAVIDSON COUNTY

This classification of Psychiatric Technician at MTMHI currently has an approved hiring rate of $3,250 monthly/$39,000 yearly.

This is an on-site position.

This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.

Necessary Special Qualifications: A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required; some positions may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license with a FOR HIRE (F) endorsement.

Overview

The Psych Tech in Support Services serves as the first point of contact for clients, families, visitors, and vendors while also providing safe, reliable transportation for patients as needed. This role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, compassion, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively in a behavioral health environment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Front Desk

Greet and assist clients, families, and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner.

Answer and route incoming calls.

Schedule appointments and confirm patient visits.

Monitor lobby activity to ensure safety and confidentiality.

Maintain front office organization and cleanliness.

Patient Transportation Duties:

Safely transport clients to and from appointments, residential facilities, hospitals, or community services.

Assist clients with entering and exiting vehicles when needed.

Ensure vehicle safety, cleanliness, and completion of routine maintenance checks.

Follow all traffic laws, regulations, and facility transportation policies.

Maintain transportation logs and required documentation.

Communicate with clinical and administrative staff regarding transportation schedules.

Respond calmly and appropriately to behavioral or emotional situations during transport.

Safety & Compliance:

Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Follow crisis intervention protocols when necessary.

Report incidents, concerns, or safety issues to a supervisor.

Participate in required training (CPR, HWC, and all annual training).

Maintain a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.

Demonstrate empathy, patience, and respect when interacting with individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Maintain professional boundaries.

Support a welcoming, stigma-free environment.

TN Driver Standards
