Working under direction of the Associate Director of Admin and IT, provide comprehensive technology support and consultation services to the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory (VGL). Implement, manage, and maintain the computing infrastructure for the department, including on-premises systems and cloud-based resources. Install and maintain servers, troubleshoot network issues, and provide desktop computing support for 70+ onsite or remote users across multiple locations. Provide front-line technical expertise in the areas of administration, service, and research-oriented computing activities. Ensure compliance with computing, networking, cybersecurity, and PCI policies.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent training, 4 years of related experience.
- Experience conducting broad technical support including hardware and software, resolving issues, communicating with non-technical personnel, responding to questions in simple terms, and interpreting technical information clearly and effectively.
- Expertise administering and maintaining enterprise infrastructure including Microsoft Active Directory; Windows group policies; AWS services including EC2, S3, and IAM; centralized desktop and server management tools such as SCCM, Intune, JAMF.
- Skill configuring and maintaining an IP network including DNS and DHCP servers; Ethernet hardware and cabling; and firewall administration.
- Demonstrated skill in configuring, troubleshooting and supporting end user client systems including desktop, laptop and mobile computing devices.
- Skill, technical knowledge, and ability to perform installation and repairs of computers, peripherals, and their internal components on mission-critical systems.
- Problem-solving skills to efficiently characterize problems and determine the best course of action.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect certification.
- Experience configuring and maintaining cloud infrastructure in AWS, including VPCs, security groups, and CloudWatch monitoring.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Docker.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and high-availability management.

Department Overview
Be part of an internationally recognized and accredited laboratory that provides expert DNA testing for various animal species. The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory provides animal parentage verification, identification, forensics services, genetic diagnostics, and genetic research for a broad range of domestic species as well as primates and wildlife species. We are looking for a representative to work in this non-profit laboratory that is part of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and strives to provide highly accurate DNA testing for animals while also promoting education and scientific advancement in animal genetics.
**VGL is currently located on the Davis campus but will be relocating to AggieSquare on the UC Davis Sacramento campus ~ Date TBD

Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Work 8am-5pm with flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends for system deployment and maintenance activities, and project priorities as needed.
